Salary: Lecturer (UH7) £35,333 to £42,155 pa dependent on skills and experience;

Senior Lecturer (UH8) £42,155 to £53,353 pa dependent on skills and experience

The School of Physics, Engineering & Computer is seeking to appoint high achieving engineers to these academic posts in the Aerospace Engineering Group within the Department of Engineering. The School offers undergraduate and post graduate degrees in a full range of Engineering subject areas and our students in Aerospace Engineering are part of our suite of Engineering programmes. This may suit an engineer in the Aerospace sector willing to use their experience to develop our students for the workplace.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Working in the Department of Engineering, comprising of a range of practice and experiential academic programmes, this appointment focusses on teaching and supporting students across our Aerospace Engineering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. You will be joining an ambitious department that values the integration of research and practical, hands on education very highly. You will be expected to undertake design and delivery of teaching that is engaging, innovative and responsive, achieving outstanding student learning outcomes. You will support the students to develop an understanding of the fundamentals of the subject and will actively engage in high quality practical applications of engineering and scholarly activity that informs, extends and transforms their subject area and informs teaching.

The post-holder will focus on teaching with a particular attention on two or more of the following areas aircraft systems, propulsion systems, aircraft manufacture and reliability, systems integration, aircraft design, control engineering, flight control systems, MatLab and Simulink, and instrumentation and embedded controllers

You will also be expected to contribute to developing the teaching activities of the department/school. Additional responsibilities may include taking on an administrative role in the School assisting with programme management.

Skills and Experience

The successful applicant will have experience and expertise in any two of the following

• aircraft systems

• propulsion systems

• aircraft manufacture and reliability

• systems integration

• aircraft design

• control engineering

• flight control systems

• MatLab and Simulink

• instrumentation and embedded controllers

with sufficient expertise and experience to be able to contribute to the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students in Engineering programmes.

You may have industrial sector experience in the aerospace sector or operational activities related to aerospace first or second tier suppliers. The ability to support the relevant teaching on our associated degree programmes across the School is the key and will be underpinned with excellent communication skills that will benefit teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

You will need to bring to this role a strong commitment to teaching, learning and student support at University level. The teaching is face 2 face and relies on excellent communication skills.

Qualifications Required

First degree (or equivalent) in a relevant Engineering or closely related subject area. A PhD (or equivalent) or within 3 months of viva, in Engineering or related subject area is required for the Senior Lecturer position.

An appointment to this role may require an ATAS certificate
