  • About This Opportunity (Level B- Teaching and Research)

    The Teaching and Research Lecturer in Finance at Academic Level B will undertake research of high quality where they will have a growing profile and seek competitive research grants; contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision and further development of the School's programs; and perform administrative and other activities associated with the School.

    Key responsibilities include:

    1. Teaching

  • Undertake teaching, assessment, and coordination of undergraduate and/or graduate coursework.

  • Teach across different settings and actively contribute towards educational practice and innovative curriculum design, including online learning and alternative teaching methods.

  • Contributions to the development of curriculum in programs offered by the School as required, including preparation of teaching materials and assessment.

  • Coordinate tutors and provide tutorial assistance if necessary.

  • Maintain and improve the quality of courses as measured through evaluation instruments to meet industry and educational standards.

  • Understand and apply University Rules relevant to teaching and learning practice.

  • 2. Research

  • Undertake high quality research that leads to publications in leading academic journals on discipline-relevant topics.

  • Seek, obtain, and manage competitive grants and industry funding for research projects.

  • Work with interdisciplinary research teams, academic-industry collaborations, and postgraduates in the development and conduct of joint research projects and applications for competitive funding support

  • Partner with research end-users outside of academia for the purpose of impact on policy, practice, or commercialisation.

  • 3. Supervision and Researcher Development

  • Contribute to the supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students.

  • Demonstrate responsible conduct of research and personal effectiveness in supervision and development of researcher capability and skill

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to build a supportive research culture in the school and broader university.

  • 4. Citizenship and Service

  • Actively develop partnerships by fostering relationships with colleagues, industry, government departments, professional bodies, and the wider community.

  • Efficiently manage allocated internal service roles and processes, including participation in decision-making and service on relevant committees.

  • Effectively perform a range of administrative functions as required.

  • Provide support to other academic positions as needed and during absences.

  • Consistently demonstrates the UQ values.

  • Perform any other duties as directed by the Discipline Leader or by the Head of School.

  • PhD in the relevant discipline area or closely related field.

  • Evidence of high-quality research in the relevant area, which is likely to lead to publications in leading academic journals.

  • Experience in conducting research as part of a team that has a demonstrable benefit for industry.

  • Ability to attract competitive grants or research income.

  • Experience in teaching undergraduate and/or postgraduate students in discipline-related courses.

  • Strong collaboration skills, inter-personal skills, and integrity.

  • Ability to relate to students, academic staff, and professional staff.

  • Evidence of performing value-adding service roles in a university setting.

  • High personal work ethic to complete tasks in a timely manner.

  • Experience with facilitation and administration of flipped, blended, and/or online courses.

  • About This Opportunity (Level C- Teaching and Research)

    The Teaching and Research Senior Lecturer in Finance at Academic Level C will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision and further development of the School's programs; undertake research of high quality where they will have an established profile, and successfully obtain competitive research grants; and to perform administrative and other activities associated with the School.

    Key responsibilities include:

    1. Teaching

  • Undertake teaching, assessment, and coordination of undergraduate and/or graduate coursework

  • Support the ongoing improvement of programs by successful coordination of a significant aspect of a program (e.g., a major, a clinical teaching unit or a field of study) or a significant contribution to the development or coordination of teaching to ensure courses are engaging, relevant and contemporary.

  • Teach across different settings and actively contribute towards educational practice and innovative curriculum design, including online learning and alternative teaching methods.

  • Coordinate tutors and provide tutorial assistance if necessary.

  • Maintain and improve the quality of courses as measured through evaluation instruments to meet industry and educational standards.

  • Understand and apply University Rules relevant to teaching and learning practice.

  • 2. Research

  • Maintain and active record of producing quality research outputs consistent with discipline norms as lead contributor, by publishing or exhibiting in national research journals, other appropriate refereed publications, and conference publications

  • Participate in or contribute in applications for significant research funding to support projects, which includes actively seeking, obtaining, and managing research funding.

  • Engage and coordinate in interdisciplinary research teams across the University and academic-industry collaborations at national and international levels

  • Partner with research end-users outside of academia for the purpose of impact on policy, practice, or commercialisation.

  • 3. Supervision and Researcher Development

  • Act as Principal Supervisor to Higher Degree by Research students.

  • Demonstrate and lead others in the responsible conduct of research, and personal effectiveness in supervision and development of researcher capability and skill

  • Effectively lead and develop employee performance and conduct by providing coaching, feedback, and professional development

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to build a supportive research culture in the school and broader university.

  • 4. Citizenship and Service

  • Consistently demonstrate behaviours that align to the UQ values.

  • Shows leadership of self and others through mentoring, collaboration, and a responsibility for staff wellbeing.

  • Demonstrate a track record of achievement in relation to internal service roles, including high level of collaboration and participation in decision-making and service on relevant committees.

    The personal and professional attributes of the Senior Lecturer in Finance at the UQ Business School include:

    Essential

  • PhD in the relevant discipline area, or closely related field.

  • Evidence of a domestic research profile and an emerging international profile, underpinned by a track record of high-quality research in the relevant area, evidenced by publications in leading academic journals.

  • Experience in conducting research as part of a team that has a demonstrable benefit for industry.

  • Ability to attract competitive grants or research income.

  • Experience in teaching undergraduate and/or postgraduate students in discipline-related courses.

  • Strong collaboration skills, inter-personal skills, and integrity.

  • Ability to relate to students, academic staff, and professional staff.

  • Evidence of performing value-adding service roles in a university setting.

  • High personal work ethic to complete tasks in a timely manner.

    Organisational Relationships

    The position reports to the Discipline Leader.

    What We Can Offer

    This is a Full-time , 100 % FTE Continuing position at Academic Level B or Academic Level C.

    Academic Level B

    The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $101,533 to $120,570 per annum plus super of up to 17 %. The total FTE package will be in the range $118,794 to $141,067 per annum.

    An additional market loading may be negotiable for exceptional and eligible candidates, subject to senior executive approval.

    ​Academic Level C

    The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $124,378 to $143,415 per annum plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $145,523 to $167,796 per annum.

    An additional market loading may be negotiable for exceptional and eligible candidates, subject to senior executive approval.
