Applications are invited for appointment as Lecturer in the Chinese Language Enhancement Programme (CLEP ) in the School of Chinese (Ref.: 520214), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

One of the primary missions of the CLEP is to equip students with the necessary Chinese language skills for academic and professional pursuits. Tailor-made, discipline-specific practical Chinese language courses are offered to undergraduates in all Faculties across the University. Applicants should possess the following:

  • A Master's degree, preferably a doctoral degree, in Chinese or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years' post-qualification teaching experience at the tertiary level, a proven track record in teaching, and a strong commitment to education.
  • The capability of designing and teaching practical Chinese courses.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, as well as proficiency in Putonghua.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with one or more of the following supplementary qualifications:

  • A background in Experiential Learning (EL) and in organising and leading EL programmes and student outbound activities.
  • A portfolio of teaching Chinese culture and application of IT skills in language teaching.
  • A high level of competence in written English.
  • A background in language used in the legal profession and the courts.
  • The appointee will be responsible to teach the CLEP courses. Apart from teaching, he/she will be required to participate in various administrative duties. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview.

    A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 15% of basic salary.
