Job description

The School of Psychology & Computer Science seek to appoint a Lecturer in Psychology to consolidate teaching and research strengths. The post-holder will contribute to teaching, assessment, and project supervision on the School's undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in psychology. We are particularly looking for a candidate who can contribute to teaching on a new MSc in Experimental Psychology.

We seek an individual with advanced experimental skills, including experience using eye tracking and EEG methodologies, as well as an understanding of EEG and eye movement co-registration data acquisition and analysis. R programming skills in relation to advanced statistical analyses and data treatment (e.g., Linear Mixed Modelling, Power Analyses, etc.) are required. Experience undertaking experimental research in the community (schools, hospitals, etc.), particularly using mobile research facilities would be a significant advantage.

The School of Psychology & Computer Science is one of three schools in the Faculty of Science & Technology and is located in the purpose-built Darwin Building. The School is well resourced, with an extensive range of state-of- the-art laboratories and equipment, including a Neuroscience Suite, a Child Observation Suite, an adult-focused Brain Imaging Laboratory, a child-focused Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory, and eye-tracking laboratories. Our key neuroscience facilities include EEG/ERP, TMS, tDCS, fNIRS and fTCD. A new Mobile Research Unit for research and knowledge transfer in the community will be available from 2022. The School of Psychology has a thriving community of PhD and MSc students and has strong links with international universities, NHS hospital trusts, schools and community groups.

Essential criteria for the post in terms of qualifications, experience and skills include having a PhD in Psychology or a related discipline as well as having experience of undergraduate or postgraduate teaching/lecturing and assessment experience, a good track record of peer-reviewed publications in a relevant area of Psychology and a commitment to real-world research impact and innovation.

Excellent communication and presentation skills as well as good planning, organisation and collaboration skills are core requirements for this position. The successful applicant will have a commitment to participating in student recruitment activities, the ability to teach and supervise dissertations up to Masters level and strong initiative and team working skills.
