Lecturer in Nutrition and Dietetics

Life & Medical Sciences / Clinical, Pharmaceutical and Biological Science

FTE: 1 FTE (37 hours per week)

Duration of Contract: Fixed term contract for six months

Salary: UH7 £35,333 to £42,155 per annum depending on skills and experience

Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield, University of Hertfordshire

The School of Life and Medical Sciences at the University of Hertfordshire is seeking to appoint a full time lecturer to contribute to the BSc (Hons) Nutrition and BSc (Hons) Dietetics programmes and postgraduate courses. Main duties and responsibilities

You will contribute to the teaching of nutrition and dietetics to undergraduate and postgraduate students and create innovative learning activities. You will contribute to the maintenance of a high-quality student experience to nutrition and dietetics students in ensuring that they are fully prepared for work experience or placement, and in supporting them and their supervisors whilst on placement. You will undertake innovative and varied assessment of students, you will be accessible to students in the role of personal tutor, providing tutorial assignment guidance, undertaking review of students' work and marking activities whilst providing constructive student feedback and evaluation. You will be expected to take responsibility for the management and delivery of specific modules and supervise research project work. You will contribute, where appropriate, to other programmes in the Department of Clinical, Pharmaceutical and Biological Science and other areas, e.g. healthcare and science programmes. You will have the opportunity to undertake research by developing undergraduate research projects and/or applying for research grants. You may also contribute to admissions and other marketing and outreach activities to support the courses promotion and student recruitment.

Skills and experience needed

To undertake the role, you will have teaching and / or professional and /or research experience within the field of nutrition and or dietetics. Experience in learning and teaching in higher education is desirable. You will be motivated to teach and have highly effective communication and interpersonal skills. We need someone who is flexible in their approach and demonstrates an ability to work as part of a team, with an ability to multi-task and to meet deadlines. You must also have proficiency in the English Language and good IT skills. Proven experience in learning and teaching in higher education in one or more of the following is desirable: nutrition including nutritional sciences and public health, dietetics, nutrition research, along with placement education and supervision.

Qualifications required

We are looking for applicants who hold a degree in nutrition and/or dietetics at undergraduate level or equivalent. Experience as a nutritionist or dietitian and or registration with the Association of Nutrition (AfN) or British Dietetic Association (BDA) or the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is desirable. An MSc or equivalent in a relevant science and/or a PhD or equivalent or being near completion of a PhD (for example within three months of viva) is desirable. Holding a qualification in learning and teaching in higher education is desirable.
