Job description

Abertay is a modern university with a global outlook, rooted in its local and national communities. We have made our mark with high quality, well-directed teaching and research, and a stimulating and enriching experience for our students.

The University is looking to appoint a lecturer who can contribute to the delivery of its LLB(Hons) programme which is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland and the Faculty of Advocates. We are particularly interested in interviewing candidates with an interest in teaching a range of core Scottish law modules such as Contract, Delict, and Property. Experience in legal practice will be an advantage, as will being qualified to practice law in Scotland and teaching the above-mentioned modules at tertiary level in Scotland.

Within the School of Business, Law and Social Sciences, the Division of Law delivers an undergraduate LLB (Hons) programme and contributes to the delivery of law modules in other divisions and schools across the University. Our programme has a strong emphasis on the development of transferable skills along with the academic discipline of law. The Division supervises a number of PhD candidates and there is an established research culture which led to a successful submission to the REF2021. This, therefore, is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to contribute to the further development of the Division.

The post holder will also develop research objectives, projects and proposals and carry out individual or collaborative research projects aligned with the Abertay Research and Knowledge Exchange Strategy. To support this endeavour, suitably qualified newly appointed academics will be given a fully funded 3.5 year PhD studentship (or equivalent funding for academics with already established research teams) to jointly supervise with colleagues from within the University. The proposed research will be subject to approval from the Dean of School and the Research Executive. The successful candidate will devote approximately half their time to research in the first two years; the rest will be allocated to teaching and other activities. By year three, we expect the role holder to have established themselves and their allocation of research time will be as per the academic workload model guidance for the University.

Reporting to the Head of Division of Law you will provide teaching input to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes while taking a leading role in fostering and developing the research culture in the Division of Law. Informal enquiries about the position may be directed to the Head of the Division of Law, Professor McKay, at a.mckay@abertay,ac.uk.

If you believe you have the skills and experience for this exciting and challenging role, please submit your application by clicking apply online below.

Please note that we will only accept applications through our online recruitment system.
