Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer in International Development. The appointee will contribute to teaching and research in the area of International Development, with associated responsibilities relating to administration and outreach. We encourage applications from scholars with research interests in any subfield of international development that builds/broadens our existing portfolio. We are particularly interested to hear from candidates who are able to use their research experience in the Global South and expertise to respond to interdisciplinary development challenges, such as poverty and inequality; climate risk and sustainable futures; health; improved communication and innovation systems; participation, inclusion and social change. Ability to and the potential to attract research funding and contribute high quality publications are important. The appointee will be expected to undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision within the School. Relevant undergraduate programmes in the School include BSc International Development, BSc French & International Development and BSc Spanish & International Development. The School also offers six Masters programmes in International Development, covering a diverse range of topics that include applied development, agriculture, climate change, communication, environmental change and food security.

The appointee will join the Department of International Development, which sits within the School of Agriculture, Policy and Development (SAPD) of the University of Reading. The School is global in its outlook and has an international reputation for both teaching and research. It was ranked 12th in the World QS subject rankings for Agriculture and Forestry in 2021. The School has an established reputation for interdisciplinary research. Staff in the Department are also part of the Global Development Division, which includes staff from the Departments of Economics and Geography & Environmental Science, and the School of Law. The appointee will be expected to engage with other relevant groupings both within the University (e.g. the Walker Institute) and externally. The School provides a welcoming, supportive and progressive environment for career development and consists of a learning and research community from over 70 different nations, was highly ranked in the last REF and prides itself on its multidisciplinary research and education.
