  • We are looking for an exceptionally talented and enthusiastic lecturer with an inspiring approach to teaching ‘visual literacy' to undergraduate Interior Designers and spatial practitioners. We believe that important courses in our subject are identified through their ambitious approach towards visual communication and nurturing student's skills and sensibilities in this area. Balancing the expectations of contemporary practice with the opportunities inherent within a progressive art school. We are looking for a key person to join our growing academic team to help shape the visual identity of Interior Design at Kingston.

    This is an opportunity to work with a creative team at the 3D Department, Kingston School of Art. You will contribute to the teaching, professional engagement and research activities of the department. You will be expected to teach across all years of BA Interior Design and contribute to the other courses in the 3D Design Department.

    You will have a profile as a designer / architect / artist and have the necessary experience of teaching and research at an entry level. You will have a role in retaining our reputation and enhancing our teaching and learning experience as part of the community of educators, practitioners and researchers working within the 3D Department within the Design School at Kingston School of Art.

    The Person

    We are looking for an exceptionally talented and enthusiastic lecturer with an inspiring approach to teaching digital and analogue 2D drawing and 3D modelling to undergraduate and postgraduate Interior Designers. We believe that distinct courses in our subject are identified through their ambitious approach in how they communicate their ideas visually. We aim to balance the expectations of contemporary practice with the opportunities inherent within a progressive art school. We are looking for a person to join our growing academic team to help retain the quality and enhance the experience of students and staff in the first year of an ambitious undergraduate course.

    Interior Design sits alongside Product & Furniture Design, Sustainable Design, Fashion, Graphic Design and Illustration Animation within the Design School where an open-minded, interdisciplinary outlook is encouraged.

    Applicants will be required to demonstrate that they meet the Kingston University standards in learning and teaching, and research. By the end of the probation period, you must have achieved the relevant level of UKPSF recognition (if this has not already been obtained). For those new to teaching, this will be through our accredited Introduction to Learning and Teaching and for those experienced in teaching, through our Kingston Academic Practice Standards Framework.

    Directorate/Function

    Tomorrow's designers need to be able to think critically and act practically. They are required to be insightful and creative to meet new challenges in a strategic, ambitious and entrepreneurial manner. The Design School is committed to creative rigour in the context of design education, practice, research and enterprise. It is a critically engaged community of design practitioners, educators, researchers and entrepreneurs.

    The Design School believes that discipline, excellence and knowledge are key to the creation of confident, agile and creative contemporary design practitioners. Thinking and doing underpins design practice across the School –supporting the students as their work traverses disciplines and subjects in defining the emerging roles and responsibilities for designers of the future. The Design School is made up of the Department of 3D Design, Department of Fashion, Department of Graphics and the Department of Illustration and Animation. The School attracts five applicants for every student place and enjoys world-wide recognition.

    This is a part-time (18.5 hours per week), permanent role with a starting salary of £20,565.50 ( 50% to £41,131) per annum.
