Description

Lecturer in Geopolitics of Energy

Are you a political scientist/international relations scholar with ambition to work in a research-intensive Russell Group University? Are you also passionate about delivering an exceptional student experience?

The School of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) at the University of Leeds is looking for a lecturer in the Geopolitics of Energy to add to our strength in climate-related research and teaching within the School and the wider university. The School covers excellent research and teaching across the sub-fields of politics, international relations and international/global development, with an overarching focus on the politics of global challenges. The School seeks applications in the geopolitics of energy with particular (but not exclusive) focus on the politics of energy security and on the ongoing energy transition. We are particularly interested to see applications from researchers who are developing interdisciplinary research in these areas. The successful candidate will add to our existing research strengths in the area of International Relations (broadly defined) and of Climate Politics, and be able to engage closely with colleagues in the interdisciplinary MSc in Climate Futures (from 2024) and in the School's Centre for Global Security Challenges and Centre for Global Development.

The successful candidate will be expected to build a strong portfolio of interdisciplinary research and teaching, help advance the School's undergraduate and graduate curricula in International Relations, Climate and Energy (working effectively with the Faculty of Environment and Engineering where possible), pursue funded research projects, contribute to the growth and development of one or more of our research centres, and support our vibrant community of PGR research students.

Our commitment to inclusion

As an international research-intensive university with a strong commitment to student education, we aim to create an inclusive environment that attracts, supports and retains the best students and staff from all backgrounds and from across the world.

In line with this vision, the Faculty of Social Sciences is committed to fostering a culture of inclusion, respect and equality of opportunity. We select candidates on the basis of merit and ability and aspire to further diversify our Faculty community. We particularly welcome and encourage applications from candidates belonging to groups that have been under- represented in the University including, but not limited to: Black, Asian and ethnically diverse people; people who identify as LGBT+; and people with disabilities.
