We have an excellent opportunity for a Lecturer in Computer Networking

We are seeking to recruit a Lecturer in Computer Networking who is highly motivated, independent, passionate about teaching and research in this fast- moving field, and has an excellent understanding and experience of the theoretical and practical aspects of designing and configuring computer networks.

They will join an existing team of academics and become actively involved in the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and contribute to our portfolio of research and industrial collaboration.

The post-holders duties will include delivering quality teaching, supervising students and carrying out research in the computer networking field.

Given the fast-paced nature of this subject area we are interested in candidates ranging from those starting their academic career through to experienced academics who can demonstrate leadership in teaching and/or research.

Some responsibilities of the role

Teaching and Learning

  • Design teaching material and deliver either across a range of modules
  • Supervise student projects at postgraduate and undergraduate level
  • Identify areas where current provision is in need of revision or enhancement
  • Contribute to the planning, design and development of course and curriculum objectives and material
  • Research

  • Undertake individual or collaborative research projects of relevance to the School / University
  • Extend, transform and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship to learning, research and appropriate external activities
  • Identify external sources of funding and develop or contribute to funding bids - research, knowledge transfer and engagement grant applications – including those with industry
  • Leadership, Management and Engagement

  • Take a lead in own area of expertise, act as mentor for junior colleagues
  • To engage with and participate in the University's Salford Academic process as reviewer and/or reviewee, as appropriate
  • Co-operate with colleagues to ensure student needs and expectations are met; act as leader of module or programme, or of significant sections of a programme
  • Plan, co-ordinate and implement research programmes or engagement projects; organisation of external activities such as student projects, field trips and industrial placements; manage or monitor research or engagement budgets and ensure effective use of resource; organise administrative duties
