Opportunity

The School of Science, Engineering and Environment (SEE) is home to a diverse, global community of over 4000 undergraduate, postgraduate and research students supported by over 300 colleagues, and a hub of discovery and innovation. It was formed in 2018 from the unification of three smaller Schools to provide opportunities for interdisciplinary working across its broad academic offer, concentrating around the built and natural environments. Drawing on an academic portfolio from Engineering to Biomedicine, our multidisciplinary approach is designed to shape the next generation of scientists, engineers, urbanists, and climate leaders. The School's strategy to reinforce a strong international record for high-quality, research-led teaching is enabled through a university-level strategy that facilitates the engagement of Employers/NHS and industrial partners in the design and delivery of our taught programmes. This role within the Biomedicine subject area and part of the Human and Natural Science (HANS) Directorate, is to enhance/support Teaching and Research within the School/Directorate/Subject area

The Biomedicine team delivers a suite of programmes at undergraduate and taught postgraduate levels, which carry accreditation by the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (IBMS) and the Royal Society of Biology. Current undergraduate teaching is centred around Biomedical science (3 year BSc, 4 year (with Profession experience) BSc and Path-Lab based (Apprentice BSc), Human Biology and Infectious Diseases (HBID) and Microbiology. At postgraduate level, taught provision includes degrees in Biomedical Science, Biotechnology and Drug Discovery.

The School now wishes to appoint a Lecturer in the Biomedicine subject area to further strengthen the activities of this highly successful, rapidly growing subject area. The selected candidate will contribute to the School's Research profile through peer-reviewed publications, generation of research income and research student supervision. Applicants should demonstrate their independent research potential in an area that complements or strengthens existing themed research activity in the School and links to the University strategy. Applicants should also be committed to high quality research-led teaching and will be expected to contribute to several fundamental and specialist modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels within the subject area.

Applicants will be expected to have a first degree and a PhD in a discipline relevant to the Biosciences. This position is part-time (0.5 FTE) therefore the salary will be pro-rata.
