  • This is an opportunity for two lecturers with specialist practice or research in Photography and Moving Image to join the Graphic Design Department at Kingston School of Art (KSA). Photography and moving image are integral parts of current and emerging Graphic Design practice and research.

    The Graphic Design Department is one of four Departments within the Design School: Fashion, Three Dimensional Design, Illustration Animation and Graphic Design. These appointments are to support students develop a wide range of each photography and or film/moving image in relation to Graphic Design. The successful candidates will initially be working on the BA Graphic Design Course, though there are opportunities within the Department to teach on postgraduate Graphic Design. The extremely successful undergraduate course has, was for years, been no:1 in The Guardian League Table for Design and Craft 2020-2021, 2021-2022 and has been top 5 for 5 years.

    The Person

    You will be joining an experienced team to deliver a range of teaching, academic, professional and design research activities. You will teach and support student development, ensuring high quality pedagogic delivery and student centred learning. Working closely with the Course Leader and Head of Department, and the staff team you will have the opportunity to contribute to the direction of the department and school, drawing on your experience of research photographic and or moving image practice, design and education. You will be committed to student support, through cultivating a combination of ‘studio culture' and ‘blended learning', developing analogue and digital learning opportunities.

    You should have industry experience, practice and/or high-level research upon which you can draw to support students in relation to contemporary and emerging photographic, moving image, and design practice.

    Ideally you will have experience of delivering and leading teaching & learning in Higher Education in Photography or Film/moving image. You may have a specialist knowledge or experience of a particular aspect of Photography and or moving image which relates to Graphic Design practice eg: Editorial/Book Design, Art Direction, Architecture, Studio, Portrait, Social political/visual commentary, studio photography and or and short film, motion graphics, data mapping, projections etc. The successful candidates are likely to have experience of both analogue and digital photographic practice.

    You will be able to contribute to current debates and innovations in teaching and learning to enhance best practice within the school, as part of the community of educators, practitioners, and researchers. You will contribute to the research, enterprise and pedagogic development in your discipline and be committed to your continuing professional development.

    Applications should be supported by a digital portfolio of your photographic/film or moving image work, research or practice, and/or examples of project work undertaken with students.

    The Design School is made up of the Department of 3D Design, Department of Fashion, Department of Graphics and the Department of Illustration and Animation. The School attracts five applicants for every student place and enjoys world-wide recognition.

    We are looking to recruit 2 X part-time, permanent Lecturers with a starting salary of £23,959.20 (60% to £39,932) per annum
