Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer in Experiential Learning (Psychology)

The University of Hong Kong

Apply now Ref.: 518861 Work type: Full-time Department: Faculty of Social Sciences (30000) Categories: Teaching Staff Hong Kong

Applications are invited for appointment as Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer in Experiential Learning (Psychology) in the Faculty of Social Sciences (Ref.: 518861), to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

The Faculty of Social Sciences at The University of Hong Kong has adopted, since 2008, two overarching themes of non-paid, off-campus experiential learning for its undergraduate curricula: Social Innovation (SI) and Global Citizenship (GC). Currently, the Faculty has engaged more than 150 community partners for SIGC.

It is the philosophy of the Faculty that experiential learning in social sciences is essential for students to gain applicable practice skills while developing expertise in a particular substantive area. A new Psychology Field Placement Course is recently developed in this context following the establishment of the new Bachelor of Psychology Program. The appointee will help the experiential learning team to design and deliver new internship placement with a specific focus on psychology.

Applicants should possess a Master's degree or above in Psychology or a related discipline, with at least three years' post-qualification work experience in relevant professional or academic setting. A strong academic background in Psychology and a mature personality with excellent interpersonal skills is necessary. Excellent communication skills in English and Chinese (including Cantonese) is essential. Experience in delivering internship and experiential learning programmes and in collaborating with NGOs and related community partners will be an advantage. They should be an innovator with strong organizational, administrative, interpersonal and networking skills, and have ability to work effectively and successfully with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds, including students and community partners, and to foster sensitivity to and competency regarding diverse issues in a university community. Those with less experience or qualifications may be considered for appointment as Assistant Lecturer.

The appointee will establish contact with new community partners to reflect latest industry development in our network. He/She will apply his/her specialised training in psychology to oversee local and non-local internships, field placements, and conduct teaching, workshop, site visit and assessment, as appropriate. The appointee will be expected to make contributions at both course and system levels, including internship administration, event planning and promotion of the SIGC. The position requires a deep conviction of theory and practice integration and a commitment to innovative teaching in higher education. A passion for working with and mentoring students in academic, personal and career development is essential. Demonstrated understanding of the industry practice and strong capacity to network for new partnership opportunities are also an asset.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary for Lecturer, or up to 10% of basic salary for Assistant Lecturer.

The University only accepts online applications for the above post. Applicants should apply online, upload a covering letter and an up-to-date CV. Review of applications will start as soon as possible and continue until February 10, 2023 , or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier.
