The Faculty of Media and Communication at Bournemouth University is one of the largest of its kind in the world and has a global reputation for combining research and teaching practice. The National Centre for Computer Animation (NCCA) is the leading centre for teaching production and research in computer animation and digital effects. In 2011 BU was awarded a Queen's Anniversary Prize for the NCCA's 'World Class' teaching.

Lighting and Look Development encompasses the set of artistic practices and workflows for conveying mood and narrative through aesthetic choices in texturing, shading, lighting and rendering of virtual objects, characters and environments. In VFX it also includes the practice of seamless integration of virtual and real assets. We welcome applicants with industry expertise in this specialist discipline from any area of computer graphics production, including (but not limited to) VFX, computer animation, architectural visualisation and/or computer games. Enthusiastic about active student-centred pedagogy, you will contribute to education delivery, including programme management as required, across the range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. You will also make a significant contribution to employability and help to further enhance the department's professional networks.

You will be qualified to Doctorate level or be able to demonstrate the ability to create and disseminate knowledge at an equivalent level and the capability to convert this knowledge into a doctorate in a maximum of 3-5 years from the date of appointment. You will be research active and committed to a culture of academic excellence and continuous improvement.

The University is currently trialling hybrid working until December 2022 which is a blend of on campus and remote working. Further details will be provided during the recruitment process.
