Job Description

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Exercise and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Boston (https:// www. umb.edu/academics/cnhs/exerciseandhealthsciences/) is one of the fastest growing departments on campus, currently consisting of 16 tenure-track/tenured faculty, 9 full-time and part-time lecturers, and approximately 600 undergraduate students and 30 graduate students. The faculty's broad research expertise ranges from the cellular level to community and population studies. Faculty in applied exercise physiology focus on biological mechanisms in adaptations to exercise; neurovascular mechanisms in response to stressors; and biological and neurophysiological mechanisms in obesity and chronic diseases. Faculty in health promotion and disease prevention focus on determinants and intervention research with special populations such as physical activity promotion in older adults, people of color who are cancer survivors, children with special needs, and Latinx and immigrant populations. The undergraduate program offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Health Sciences, and the graduate program offers traditional and accelerated Master of Science degrees and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Exercise and Health Sciences, with concentrations in Applied Exercise Physiology and Physical Activity and Health Promotion. Undergraduate students complete an internship at an approved organization in the fields of exercise and health sciences that provides them with hands-on practical experience as a capstone to their degree. Master's students pursuing the practicum option complete a capstone experience at an approved organization in the fields of exercise and health sciences that provides them with an opportunity to translate content knowledge and apply relevant clinical, communication, and management skills in a real-world setting. Both the internship and practicum experiences are supported by class meetings that provide a forum for students to share experiences, further develop career objectives, and stimulate creative thinking related to their professional development.

QUALIFICATIONS: Specific requirements: 1) a minimum of a Master's degree in exercise science, kinesiology, or related areas; 2) university-level teaching experience (which may include experience as a graduate teaching assistant) in the area of exercise and health sciences, kinesiology, or related fields; 3) experience in managing internship and/or practicum programs; and 4) experience working with diverse faculty, staff, and students and be committed to support our goal of ensuring an inclusive, equitable, and diverse workplace and educational environment.
