The School of Art, Design and Performance is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and ambitious applicant to the role of Course Leader/ Senior Lecturer in Product Design. Product Design has an established history at Buckinghamshire New University, with a commitment to high quality teaching and learning and the course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED). We are looking to appoint an outstanding candidate who is an accomplished practitioner/researcher, with a proven academic track record, advanced knowledge of developments in product design, and industry knowledge, skills, and networks. Suitable candidates are expected to have specialist expertise in the use of industry standard software and digital technologies. They will either be a member or willing to work to achieve the membership of IED. Expertise and experience on industrial design will be highly beneficial to the role. A suitable candidate who will not meet the senior lecturer criteria will be appointed at lecturer level.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Job Title: Senior Lecturer in Product Design

    School: Art, Design and Performance

    Grade: H

    Location: High Wycombe Campus

    Hours: Full time

    Responsible to: Deputy Head of School

    Job Purpose:

  • To teach and support students by adopting a learner-centred approach, delivering a first-class student experience.
  • To undertake research, professional practice and enterprise activity as outlined within the Bucks Academic Framework
  • To be a team-player and contribute to the wider work of the School and University
  • As Course Leader, the appointee will provide the leadership required to maintain the organisation and ongoing development required to ensure the successful day-to-day running of the Product Design course maintaining an excellent student experience and working closely with colleagues in a team. The appointee will also lead on the student recruitment and will be expected to develop a new portfolio of courses, both undergraduate and postgraduate level, meeting the applied industry and commercial needs.

    Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role:

    Education:

  • To undertake research-informed teaching in the subject discipline managing all aspects of curriculum delivery and the associated student experience to the highest standards in accordance with the University's requirements and the TEF.
  • To undertake associated activities in connection with the courses taught including: personal tutoring; student recruitment; assessment, review and evaluation.
  • To achieve student satisfaction – demonstrating a commitment to ‘customer focus' and contributing to the achievement of strong NSS results.
  • Demonstrate inclusive practice in curriculum design and delivery. Work to eliminate attainment gaps.
  • To contribute to Open Days, school, college and partnership links and the marketing and promotional work of the Department and/or School.
  • To support students in supervising placements, learning in practice, internships and work-related activities.
  • To deliver pastoral care to, and project supervision of, students.
  • To plan and deliver the curriculum using appropriate media, including the use of Digital technologies.
  • To provide effective feedback, support and guidance to students, which promotes improvement of performance.
  • To engage in professional development activities (e.g. CPD, attendance at conferences) relating to teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Research and Professional Practice:

  • To conduct research and scholarly activity of relevance to the lecturing role and/or area of professional practice and aligns own research with their teaching and learning
  • To engage with relevant business and professional networks to promote teaching and learning and research in a professional context.
  • To engage in professional development activities (e.g. CPD, attendance at conferences) relating to research, enterprise and/or the relevant profession.
  • To maintain and foster the high reputation of the University in practice partner settings.
  • To contribute to the REF and KEF and to internal and external research and enterprise strategies, as applicable.
  • Leadership and Management:

  • Demonstrate involvement in the support and development of Graduate Teaching Associates, contributing to the recruitment and mentoring of new colleagues, as appropriate.
  • To promote the University values within the academic community.
  • To adhere to the BNU Values and advance Equality Diversity and Inclusivity for students and colleagues.
  • Liaison and Networking:

  • Participate in relevant internal and external networks
  • Promote and market the work of the University in the subject area.
