Position Summary:

The UCI Human Resources (HR) enterprise is comprised of three unique business units: Medical Center, Health Sciences, and Main Campus. The Leaves & Workers' Compensation Lead serves as a critical resource for the team and supports for the Leaves Administration Supervisor. The Lead will serve as the go-to for unique complex issues and escalated cases as well as leading projects, contributing to development of new strategies and programs, and supporting team member development. Assigns caseloads and other tasks to the team. The Lead also manages a caseload and provides indivdiual contributions. Provides subject matter expertise and effectively counsels employees and managers regarding all aspects of disability, leave of absence, workers' compensation, benefit plans, utilization of entitlements under applicable laws and regulations, UC Policies and collective bargaining agreements. Applies highly advance concepts to guide complex analysis, ensures compliance, and evaluates various employee option(s) of significant scope and impact to the University and employee. Applies knowledge of job protected leaves to manage leave of absence (LOA) process for employees. Provides consultation, assistance and manages leave cases. Coordinates with workers' compensation, disability management, benefits, and labor and employee relations.

$66,700.00 - $118,500.00 (Annual Salary)

Required:

Minimum six years of progressive benefits, worker's compensation, leave, and/or like experiences. Professional administrative experience in higher education and understanding of an academic environment with University of California professional experience strongly preferred.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Thorough knowledge of FMLA, CFRA, PFL, PDL, Workers Comp, Military Leave, ERISA, HIPAA and applicable state and federal laws. Working knowledge of rules and regulations affecting employee benefit programs. Ability to maintain confidentiality and safeguard information. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively and with confidence. Skill and sensitivity in dealing with others. Ability to handle difficult and complicated issues with professionalism and sound judgement. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to build relationships, collaborate and problem solve across all levels of the organization. Critical thinking and problem solving skills. Ability to provide high level of service and adapt to shifting priorities. Knowledge of computer databases and Windows software. Ability to effectively utilize case management software. Knowledge of CA workers compensation, and disability insurance programs, such as experience in the administration and counseling of income replacement insurance plans Ability to motivate and develop team members.

Preferred:

Training with an emphasis on worker's compensation, benefits, payroll, other HR related service, call/service center experience, or in other related fields.

PHR/SPHR, SHRM/SHRM-CP, World at Work or like credential (preferred).

Knowledge of state laws pertaining to SDI and federal laws governing SSDI; Knowledge of UCI organization, UC policies, procedures, and structure; Knowledge of UCI payroll personnel system and procedures;Knowledge of and application of UC's Insurance regulations and medical plans. Knowledge of UC or UCI collective bargaining agreements.
