About This Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Senior Learning Design Officer (HEW 6) and Principal Learning Designer (HEW 7) to support our Learning Design Team in the Faculty of Health & Behavioural Sciences. Our world-class Faculty of Health & Behavioural Sciences is at the forefront of innovation in health education and research and is home to many of our internationally renowned schools including the Schools of Psychology, Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work, Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences, Dentistry and Pharmacy.
We have multiple positions available at either HEW 6 or HEW 7 depending on the successful candidates' qualifications, skills, and experience.
As a Senior Learning Design Officer (HEW 6), you will develop a range of online and on-campus learning/training materials which will enhance teaching quality and optimise student and staff learning outcomes.
As a Principal Learning Designer (HEW 7), you will provide support to academic staff with the design of curriculum, assessments, and active and flexible pedagogies to enhance teaching quality in courses and coursework programs within the Faculty.
At HEW 6, key responsibilities will include:
Applies advanced knowledge of both online and on-campus learning frameworks in relation to the implementation of blended and active learning environments in a tertiary education institution.
Applies knowledge of pedological principles to inform decisions on the most suitable modes of instruction.
Coordinates and contributes to the design and creation of educational digital assets.
Establishes and maintains strong collaborative linkages with diverse stakeholders, including academic, administrative and technical staff.
Communicates with stakeholders to advance pedagogical outcomes across the University's community of practice.
Proficiently utilises and guides others in the application of a range of eLearning platforms, including Articulate and edX Edge; extensive experience with Adobe Creative Cloud and learning management systems.
Coordinates learning design and/or other related projects within the office, including maintaining project records and documentation.
At HEW 7, key responsibilities will include:
Supports staff across the Faculty with the uptake, design, development and evaluation of learning technologies, resources and pedagogies.
Identifies and promotes innovative approaches to enhancing the student experience in online and face to face environments.
Advises university teaching and management staff on the design, development, implementation and evaluation of online resources that support student learning.
Engages with senior stakeholders and other subject matters experts to advance pedogeological outcomes across the University community of practice.
Collaborates within the HaBS Learning Design Team working towards the design, development and implementation of curriculum projects.
Identifies and builds relationships/partnerships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to advance the learning outcomes of the University.
Designs and delivers presentations, training activities and workshops.
These positions are primarily located at our vibrant St Lucia campus. As the Faculty is across a diverse range of campuses and sites, you may also have the opportunity to work at our premier UQ Herston campus.

Our ideal Senior Learning Design Officer (HEW 6) and Principal Learning Designer (HEW 7) will hold relevant qualifications, with experience and expertise in the development of online and on-campus resources, and the agility to work across disciplinary boundaries to realise contemporary curriculum, pedagogy and assessment design.
At HEW 6, you will possess:
Completion of a degree; or completion of a diploma with significant relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Advanced knowledge of both online and on-campus learning frameworks in relation to the implementation of blended and active learning environments; preferably within in a tertiary education institution.
Proven experience in developing online and on-campus resources with the ability to provide practical support on both traditional and technology- enabled approaches to curriculum, pedagogy and assessment as informed by an understanding of how higher education students learn.
Demonstrated commitment to respond to client needs, with the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders and colleagues in the development of learning content.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate, collaborate, consult and negotiate with staff at all levels.
Highly effective organisational and time management skills.
High–level analytical skills including demonstrated ability in analysis and interpretation of detailed and complex information to identify issues and solve problems.
Working knowledge of University learning management systems, policies and procedures or the capacity to rapidly acquire this knowledge.
At HEW 7, you will possess:
Completion of a relevant degree and at least four (4) years subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training in developing online resources to support student learning.
Demonstrated understanding of enablers and limitations of educational technology and best practices to support student achievement and engagement, teacher effectiveness and teaching innovation.
Advanced analytical skills including demonstrated ability in analysis and interpretation of detailed and complex information to identify issues and solve problems.
Demonstrated ability to apply pedagogical theory, contemporary practice and practical experience to analyse complex teaching and learning situations and apply high-level problem-solving skills to develop appropriate and innovative face to face and online learning solutions.
Proven ability and experience in using a range of technologies including learning platforms and associated software for the design, development, implementation and evaluation of online learning resources and environments to support student learning.
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative linkages with diverse stakeholders, and a demonstrated commitment to responding to client needs
Demonstrated ability to work iteratively, adapting quickly to change and operating effectively both on an autonomous basis and as a member of a collaborative, client-focused team.
What We Can Offer
These are full-time (1FTE), fixed-term positions through to 31 December 2024 at HEW Level 6 or 7. Applicants should clearly state which HEW level they are applying for within their cover letter.
At HEW Level 6, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range of $84,871 - $91,158 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range of $100,262 - $106,654 per annum.
At HEW Level 7, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $93,254 - $101,680 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $109,107 - $118,966 per annum.
The following flexible employment options may be available for this role: part time/job share; some working from home; variable start or finish times; purchased leave; flex-time.
