Our Landscape Steward is responsible for leading other staff and volunteers in beautifying the Ogier Gardens' biodiverse landscape and caring for our infrastructure, tools and equipment. • Beautify the landscape: The student will take the lead in the mowing, edging, blowing, pruning, deadheading flowers, seeding wildflowers, maintaining pathways, seeding cover crops and grass as well as saving seeds. • Maintain our infrastructure, tools and equipment – The student will monitor and assist with irrigation installation and repair, ensure that our equipment is used, cleaned and put away properly. The Landscape Steward must be responsible, reliable, and hard-working. The candidate must be positive, energetic, and enjoy working collaboratively with students, instructors, and faculty. It also requires a professional and dedicated person who is detail oriented. This person must help with all UNF Ogier Gardens physical tasks, including but not limited to: working both inside and outside in heat, sun, wind, rain & cold; preparing beds, planting, cultivating, weeding, harvesting, mulching, scouting, including recording pests and disease (which may require lifting heavy objects of up to 50 lbs); working near animals, plants, and insects that can bite/sting. In addition to those physical tasks, the position requires you to help with all UNF Ogier Gardens outreach, including but not limited to: introducing yourself as staff to each person who enters the Gardens, and guiding volunteers, marketing and outreach efforts, as well as promoting student health through gardening. It is extremely rare that work may be required on weekends. Other Duties: Office Duties: enter data, answer phones, check messages, email, and maintain social media. General cleaning & maintenance of facilities & equipment.

Required Qualifications

• Must be a current UNF student. • Communicate effectively with staff and public in writing or verbally. • CPR & First Aid Certified (can be accomplished within first 60 days of work, Health Promotion offers this for free). • Comfortable in nature and enjoys sharing the natural world with others. • A sense of humor & willingness to adapt; be self-motivated and hard working.

Preferred Qualifications

• Have organic lawn care experience, and organic farming experience at both mechanized/field production scale and/or hand/garden scale and experience with appropriate tools. • Have a commitment to and enjoyment of working with students. • Work well in a collaborative and team environment. • Have a positive, enthusiastic, and supportive attitude. • Have building, maintenance, and general handy-person skills. • Have knowledge of and interest in human nutrition. • Enjoy preparing and eating fresh fruits, herbs and vegetables. • Computer knowledge and experience (Microsoft Office, Adobe, Publisher, Facebook, etc.). • Can effectively problem solve and multi-task, work independently and as a team player. • Remain calm and think logically, especially during first-aid and emergency circumstances. • Complete training and pass the Student Farmer quiz.
