Technician III - Band C

Biotechnology Resource Center (BRC) Epigenomics Facility

Cornell Institute of Biotechnology

The Cornell Biotechnology Resource Center's Epigenomics Core Facility (EGC), within the Cornell Institute of Biotechnology, provides a high-throughput end- to-end service that maps protein-DNA interactions genome-wide, tracks experimental metadata, and implements quality-controlled data processing and research-based analysis pipelines. We provide epigenomic and bioinformatic research resources and services that include sample preparation services and data generation for various diagnostic epigenetic assays. We work together across the 'wet' and 'dry' labs to develop novel analysis furthering biological understanding of gene regulation. Our Core aims to provide an inclusive and professional community for research technicians and scientists to work and learn in a supportive environment.

This position will be providing high level technical lab support by performing a broad range of complex laboratory and research related tasks for the EGC core facility. Conduct state-of-the-art research in molecular biology with emphasis in eukaryotic gene regulation, transcription, epigenetics, epigenomics, tumor diagnostics, and high-throughput computer-aided liquid automation systems (robot). Conduct sample preparation for NGS sequencing that requires wet bench skills such as the ability to perform assays, making buffers, and mixing reagents. The Core also intends to utilize robotic systems for sample prep and sequencing preparation in support of lab research, review progress and evaluate results, therefore responsibilities would include robot instrument programming, loading, operation, and proper maintenance. All core members work to maintain open-source LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) information, monitoring established controls and feedback systems. LIMS responsibilities also include final billing for facility services provided.

This is a full-time (39 hours/week), one-year term appointment with the possibility of extension contingent on funding and available work.

No visa sponsorship or relocation assistance available for this position.

To be considered, you must submit BOTH cover letter and resume. We have found it most efficient to save application materials as one combined PDF document before attaching.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in biology, chemistry, or related area, and 1-2 years of experience working in a molecular biology laboratory or equivalent combination of combination and/or experience.
  • Candidates must understand biochemistry, molecular biology, and genomic principles at a basic level.
  • Candidate must be comfortable with basic molecular biology procedures and demonstrate proficiency in molecular biology experimentation (organism agnostic).
  • Must be willing to learn new laboratory skills and improve existing skills.
  • Competency with basic calculations as well as computers, especially with MS EXCEL and standardized laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Attention to detail and multitasking abilities are critical, due to the high-volume, high-throughput nature of the lab operation, and critical importance of correct and timely data generation.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a facility team.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and proactive in meeting facility needs.
  • Department Mission and Background Information
