OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

A lab in the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center under the Department of Neurosurgery is looking for a full-time Laboratory Research Analyst I. This candidate will work with a highly collaborative team of researchers and clinicians to study the innate immune system and the impact of immunotherapy treatment in both adult and pediatric brain cancer. The lab focuses on biomarkers of immune response and novel treatments to increase patient survival.

· Design and perform molecular assays including but not limited to PCR, qPCR, bisulfite conversion, and plasmid design

· Perform nucleic acid extractions

· Prepare nucleic acid for next generation sequencing testing at third party vendor

· Cell culture including lentivirus and retrovirus transductions

· Operate laboratory equipment required for specific tests.

· Oversee equipment preventative maintenance.

· Learn ordering procedures to serve as backup ordering employee

· Document, compile, analyze, and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results.

· Prepare, present, and discuss data at lab meetings and journal clubs

· Prepare and execute work independently, with minimal input from supervisor or principal investigator.

· Review laboratory methods, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to the implementation and design of research experiments.

· Perform other related duties as required by supervisor

· Must be detail-oriented, well organized, and approach laboratory procedures with critical thinking of the technical aspects.

Minimum Qualifications Education

Work requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.

Experience

Work requires two years of research experience. A related master's OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience.
