  • About This Opportunity

    We are eagerly seeking a Laboratory Manager to manage the technical operation and functional performance of the School of Pharmacy's research laboratories. This role involves building strong and effective relationships with academic and professional colleagues across multiple organisational units; providing clear technical advice; and managing the laboratory's operation, including responsibility for business management, asset management, equipment procurement; maintenance; budgeting; and work, health and safety of the lab in collaboration with the university's Health, Safety and Wellness staff.

    Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing the laboratory facility, including any upgrades/improvements and/or changes to the built environment.

  • Managing the laboratory budget and budget planning, with regard to laboratory consumables, equipment, facilities maintenance and service contracts, as well as procurement activities as required.

  • Providing laboratory subject matter expertise and technical advice to academic staff and researchers regarding relevant and appropriate laboratory methods, equipment, quality assurance procedures, risk assessment and waste management.

  • Implementing a high standard of Occupational Health and Safety and risk mitigation standards and systems, including inductions, supervision, equipment training registers, administration of Laboratory/Facility Inventories, reporting and investigating injuries, incidents and hazards.

  • About You

    Completion of a relevant degree with at least four (4) years of relevant experience; or extensive experience and management expertise in laboratory management and/or a relevant research field; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Relevant experience in a laboratory supervision or management role, preferably in a university environment, with a strong focus on documented processes and procedures.

  • Detailed knowledge of legislative and health and safety requirements, including any legislative and regulatory requirements.

  • Extensive experience with managing the lifecycle of scientific equipment, including procurement, preventative maintenance, user training and record- keeping, and disposal.

  • Well-developed problem-solving skills, with an ability to forward plan, prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work with a high level of adaptability, both independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to produce clear, succinct documentation and the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in a research environment.

  • The successful candidate will be required to a complete a pre-employment check which includes the right to work in Australia.
