Description

The Bergelson lab at NYU Biology is looking for a highly motivated and independent individual to work as a Laboratory Associate.

This position is for a post-MS trainee preparing for a research scientist career path. The planned position will facilitate the development of professional skills, including collaboration with both undergraduates and postdoctoral associates, and participation in the publication of research findings/scholarship during the appointment period.

This ERC funded Synergy project, PATHOCOM, is a collaborative grant, which seeks to use the lens of evolutionary ecology and genetics to understand the assembly of plant phyllosphere communities and the mechanisms through which they affect plant health. The overarching project embraces the complexity of these communities, and it aims to explain real-world patterns through experimental observations of interactions between host, pathogen, and commensal genotypes. The Laboratory Associate will be situated in the Bergelson lab at NYU but will actively participate in these collaborative efforts among an international team. The research responsibilities of the Laboratory Associate will primarily focus on field surveys and the generation and analysis of multi-omics data, including metagenomics, expression analysis and targetted investigation of focal pathogen species in Arabidopsis thaliana. Specific focal areas and techniques may include further development and implementation of ultra high- throughput methods to enable sufficiently large-scale inoculation and phenotyping assays, computational and statistical analyses, and validation of candidate loci whose genotypes interact across strains to mediate co-infection outcomes.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold a MS and be highly motivated and excited to collaborate with a diverse team; have prior research experience in microbiology and plant biology, experience in the use of R or other computing environments, preferably in the analysis of large and complex data sets, experience with implementation of high-throughput techniques and an interest in ecological and evolutionary biology.

Application Instructions

Please upload your application materials via Interfolio. Include the following items: 1) a cover letter addressing how you can contribute to the general PATHOCOM framework and how PATHOCOM could be a catalyst for your own ambitions; 2) CV including a list of publications; 3) a list of three references and their contact information, and 4) links to up to three published papers or preprints, if available.

Application Process

This institution is using Interfolio's Faculty Search to conduct this search. Applicants to this position receive a free Dossier account and can send all application materials, including confidential letters of recommendation, free of charge.
