Primary Purpose: Summer Research Assistant for CVM SARE project

Lab Assistant will report to Dr. Jose Peralta, College of Veterinary Medicine. Work will involve travel to dairies, collection of samples including colostrum, transport of samples to lab, microbiological analysis of samples, project coordination, data entry and management.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Individuals must possess knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Basic and advanced laboratory knowledge & skills, including PCR. Western blotting, SDS-PAGE gels, expression and purification of His-tagged proteins, Gene cloning, Mammalian cell culture.
  • Basic skills in the use of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint..
  • Ability for logical, independent problem solving, and attention to detail and process
  • Knowledge of medical and microbiological terminology.
  • Required Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent and concurrently enrolled in an undergraduate program at a four-year institution.
  • Experience: Research lab experience and knowledge of fundamental laboratory techniques is required.

    Duties of the Research Associates are normally performed in a typical life science laboratory and office setting. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and must work with toxic or caustic chemicals according to institutional safety standards. The employee will also be required to handle and collect samples from domestic animals. The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions, and cold. The noise level in this setting is usually moderate due to the proximity of various office machines and light office traffic.
