This is your chance to join Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS) in pioneering a new era of responsive, student-centred medical education.

We are seeking an an inspirational role model for fixed term appointment as Academic Lead for Year 1 (1 FTE). This role will involve working on the campus sites of both the partner universities in Canterbury and Medway. The role will continue the good work already achieved to deliver Year 1 and the development of the KMMS undergraduate medical programme, in ensuring the continued provision of leadership for all aspects of the first year of the programme. It is open to suitably qualified individuals who have a specific interest and background in health sciences and healthcare education.

As Senior Lecturer and Academic Lead for Year 1 BMBS, you will:

  • Contribute and influence the development of Year 1 of the KMMS BM BS programme, ensuring that the programme satisfies GMC requirements.
  • Be a member of the KMMS management organisation and attend and participate in the work of KMMS boards, committees and sub-committees as directed by the Dean and Undergraduate Programme Director
  • Maintain and develop high quality teaching and assessment in Year 1 of the programme.
  • Liaise with and support Module, Subject and Vertical Theme Leads to ensure delivery of curriculum and associated assessments.
  • Be a point of contact for feedback to and from students
  • Teach as a member of a teaching team and deliver high quality undergraduate level learning and teaching activities.
  • To be successful in this role you will have/be:

  • A Higher degree or equivalent qualification in a related field, or equivalent experience, or Membership or Fellowship of a Royal college, or equivalent
  • Academic credibility with a track record of excellence in teaching
  • In depth understanding of current issues in undergraduate medical education
  • Ability to innovate in relation to the development of the School's taught programmes
  • Ability to articulate the School's objectives in a way that encourages others to engage with the vision
