The Psychosocial Research Unit on Health, Aging and the Community (PRUHAC)
at New York University is a multidisciplinary research group conducting
cutting edge, applied public health research. Established in 2010 to develop
preventive and supportive public health services and programs to enhance well-
being and functioning across the lifespan for diverse community-based
populations, the unit is under the NYU College of Dentistry. It is the first
program of its kind in a dental school. Directed by Victoria H. Raveis, PhD, a
medical sociologist and social gerontologist, the unit is multidisciplinary.
The grant-funded studies the unit conducts have utilized community-based
participatory research (CBPR) and implementation of community-informed,
evidence-based programs to inform the development of preventive and supportive
services and programs for diverse community-based populations, address health
equity across the life-span and enhance public health practice.

organization for breast cancer survivors) and external collaborators.
