Head Cheer Coach: Responsible for the training and development of a comprehensive Grayson College cheerleading program. The coach will work in conjunction with the Athletics Department; reporting directly to the Athletic Director. This is a part-time position. The cheerleading squad performs at approximately 26 home games each season as well as various campus & community events.

Responsibilities
  • Directs the planning and coordination of all try-outs for team; including but not limited to scheduling of space.
  • Attends tryouts and practices for team; ensures that space is secured on campus through Student Development, Athletics and Campus Security.
  • Maintains a calendar of practices and events, including but not limited to, the team's presence and support at all Men's and Women's home basketball games and applicable tournaments.
  • Works with team members to market the cheerleading program on campus through publicity and promotional tactics.
  • Upholds USA cheer rules and regulations such as safety, certification, etc.
  • Choreographs and teaches proper tumbling, cheer and dance technique and form.
  • Creates and teaches proper conditioning warm-ups and cool-downs for practices, games, and competitions.
  • Other duties and attendance as assigned by the Athletic Director and the Grayson Athletic Department.
  • Works with the Pep Band Director to coordinate music and cheer time out and half-time routines.
  • Mentors athlete academic performance
  • Coordinates selection and puchase of cheer uniforms and supplies
  • Administors scholoarship awards and budgets
  • Ensures athletic paperwork is completed for each cheer athlete

    Qualifications

    Experience: Minimum Requirement: Prior cheerleading experience. Preferred: College cheerleading and cheerleading competition experience. Prior coaching experience or prior experience in athletics, physical education, student activities, or a related field.

    Education: Expected: Bachelor's Degree and knowledge of USA Cheer Association policies.

    Interpersonal Skills: Ability to interact effectively with a diverse student population . Ability to dffectively communicate with students, staff, and administration. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Demonstrates positive, enthusiastic, collaborative, flexible and approachable behavior.

    Other Skills: Choreography and tumbling skills

    Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Position may require standing, sitting, squatting, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds without assistance. Must have the physical ability to lead cheerleading team in practice and demonstrate or coach proper techniques. Travel by car or bus may be required. Work will be performed in a gymnasium setting with exposure to loud noises.
