Primary Purpose of the Position:

The IT Database Administrator III position designs, document, configures, implements, and/or manages various databases to support a variety of applications, processes, etc. at Fayetteville State University. This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software. The IT Database Administrator III will be involved in the planning and development of databases, as well as, troubleshooting any issues on behalf of users. The IT Database Administrator III advises management on database concepts, functional capabilities, parameters, and prototypes. This position requires extensive skills and experience in database architecture, implementation, maintenance, configuration, and troubleshooting, as well as cloud hosted applications. The IT Database Administrator III is also responsible for providing support for specific applications. In addition, the IT Database Administrator III will provide second and third level response for incidents reported by ITS tier one support and monitoring systems. The IT Database Administrator III position requires strong interpersonal and consultative skills.

Other Requirements:

Must possess the ability to recognize and resolve system and software related problems; work independently and make necessary decisions within department guidelines; perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively; communicate technical and complex information both orally and in writing.

This position is designated as Mandatory Personnel: Mandatory Employees: Employees whose presence has been determined to be mandatory to university operations during certain types of adverse weather or emergency events.

This position is required to maintain and support critical systems on a 24×7×365 basis and be on-call.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:

Master's in computer science, information systems management or a related curriculum and 2-4 years' experience in the field of information technologies; or Bachelors and 3-5 years' experience.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities: Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in database management / data integration. Four years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education: (7 years total).
