The NC State European Center in Prague supports the educational and outreach objectives of NC State University. It is the university's only permanent year- round international facility that welcomes both students and faculty and aims to serve as a gateway to Europe for developing international networks and experiences.

As a unit of the Office of Global Engagement, NC State Prague primarily serves as a study abroad location for NC State students. More than 200 students study at NC State Prague each academic year on a variety of programs offered every summer, fall, and spring. Students take a full course load of NC State credits, taking advantage of the historically and culturally rich city of Prague to enhance content. Students from all academic majors and disciplines are eligible to apply. Courses as part of the “Classic Programs” are taught by local Czech or European faculty, vetted by NC State home academic departments. Multiple faculty-led programs are also offered during the summer semester.

Beyond study abroad, a key aspect of NC State Prague's vision includes global collaborations and faculty research. With its central European location and outstanding facilities, NC State Prague is poised to collaborate with colleges and departments to develop seminars and symposiums to engage with partner universities in the European region.

Essential Job Duties

As the lead advisor for NC State Prague, the Program Coordinator is the first point of contact for students interested in studying in Prague. They advise all students applying for semester-long programs and respond to inquiries for students interested in all programs. The Program Coordinator proactively reaches out to students across NC State and beyond to encourage and develop greater participation in programs at NC State Prague. The Program Coordinator is also responsible for developing and executing strategies to fully prepare students for their onsite experience.

Duties of the Program Coordinator may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Recruit students for programs at NC State Prague at NC State and possibly other universities, including but not limited to classroom presentations, tabling events, study abroad fairs, and other campus activities;
  • Monitor the NC State Prague email account;
  • Help maintain and update programs in Terra Dotta's TDS Study Abroad;
  • Coordinate with faculty and SAO faculty-led programs run through Prague;
  • Manage communication with applicants throughout the pre-departure phase of the program;
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of each NC State Prague program and proactively discuss components (academics, housing, etc.) of each with applicants;
  • Communicate policies and procedures, visa requirements, and university expectations;
  • Advise students on the Czech visa application process and conduct batch processing for fall and spring programs;
  • Work closely with onsite staff to advise students needing special accommodations;
  • Assist with planning and executing pre-departure and info sessions with Prague staff members;
  • Help coordinate the online student portal with Student Affairs Coordinators in Prague;
  • Provide ongoing coordination with the Student Affairs Coordinators in Prague to consult on the overall student experience.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree OR Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in the field of international education.
  • Minimum two (2) years of professional experience in the field of international education.
  • Other Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated basic understanding of study abroad and experience with student or academic advising.
  • Experience studying, living and/or working abroad.
  • Excellent communication skills including public speaking, and ability to exhibit empathy and enthusiasm in interactions with students, and have experience in working with faculty.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, and adapt to changing demands and priorities. Demonstrated experience working in a team-oriented environment.
  • High level of professionalism and ability to work in a demanding job environment. Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • Previous experience working in a study abroad office in a university setting strongly preferred.
  • Experience utilizing Terra Dotta software, Microsoft Office Suite, and WordPress.
  • Previous study of a foreign language.
  • Experience working with programs or other demonstrated expertise in the Czech Republic or other Central European countries.
