Intercultural Learning Specialist Job Summary

CILMAR's mission is to promote and facilitate intercultural learning at Purdue and beyond by mentoring intercultural leaders, supporting innovative scholarship, and encouraging best practices in teaching and learning. We use project management and a mentor development model to address the intercultural learning needs of a large, highly internationalized land grant university. The position will focus on mentoring faculty and staff in developing virtual exchanges and collaborative online international learning (COIL) programs and on facilitating professional development that prepares staff to embed learning in co-curricular areas such as residence life, student success, student services, etc. As with all CILMAR team members, this position also involves consultations, assessment debriefings, teaching, curriculum development, mentorship, and scholarly productivity, as well as disseminating information about CILMAR's work in and beyond Purdue. Our new team member will need a theory-based understanding of intercultural communication, global learning, and/or equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in higher education; expertise in designing and implementing learning opportunities with international partners in virtual modalities; and the ability to mentor other educators. In all knowledge and skills areas, transferable experience and interest in gaining expertise are acceptable.

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Two or more years of experience at the Specialist level (P2) with additional experience preferred
  • Three or more years of experience at the Senior Specialist level (P3) with 5-10 years of experience preferred.
  • Experience needed includes designing learning experience, teaching or facilitating training, working with new learning technologies, collaborating with colleagues across cultural differences, mentoring peers, and managing projects independently without close supervision
  • Documented educational leadership within the context of intercultural, EDI or international/global education
  • PREFERRED:

  • Involvement with international virtual exchanges, online teaching, conducting professional development programs for faculty/staff in a university setting, assessing learning outcomes, conducting needs analyses, managing data, and relating in a community or organization from a non-majority perspective.
