Spelman College seeks teacher/scholars dedicated to excellence in teaching and to the continued enhancement of the academic environment for students and colleagues. Founded in 1881, Spelman College is a private four-year liberal arts college located in Atlanta, GA. The oldest historically Black college for women in the United States, Spelman is a member of the Atlanta University Center Consortium and Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education.

Position Summary

In this course, students will examine and analyze the historical and theoretical frameworks behind media and technology, while connecting these studies to contemporary trends and issues. Students will also explore the cultural impact of media and technology by examining how media and technology can ultimately transform human behavior and habits.

Applicants should demonstrate a strong background at the intersection of digital media, technology, and art practice. Applicants should have an active professional studio practice (that includes exhibitions, residencies/fellowships, and/or publications) or equivalent professional work experience that intersects art, media, and technology.

• The ideal candidate should be prepared to introduce students to an inclusive collection of contemporary artist practices and professional work in the spaces of interactive media, digital media, technology, and art.

• The ideal candidate should demonstrate a capacity to encourage students to explore, read, write, research, and critique.

• The ideal candidate will have a M.F.A., M.S., M.P.S, or equivalent professional experience.

• Prior teaching experience in physical computing is preferred but not required.

The appointment requires the teaching of SAVC 270 History and Cultural Impact of Media & Technology and scheduled participation in the Spelman College Innovation Lab

The successful candidate will have earned a master's degree or an equivalent record of professional accomplishments.
