Job Summary

The Department of Occupational Therapy at Radford University is seeking a full-time, temporary, (nine months) to develop curriculum and complete the accreditation process for an OTA to MOT Bridge Program. This position is funded through July 2024 and receives reappointment each year. There is potential for this position to become a full-time permanent position following the successful completion of Bridge program accreditation. The candidate will teach up to one class per semester in addition to program development. This position reports to the Chair, Department of Occupational Therapy. A telework position and online teaching will be considered for a non-local candidate with demonstrated experience and success in new program development.

Roles and Responsibilities

1. Promotes excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service in the department, college, and university consistent with each unit's strategic plan;

2. Maintains credentials for the practice of occupational therapy (national certification, state licensure, and advanced/specialty certifications) in order to incorporate knowledge and skills into teaching;

3. Develops curriculum for an OTA to MOT Bridge Program, and collaborates with the Occupational Therapy Curriculum Committee, Radford University, and ACOTE throughout the process

4. Prepares and submits appropriate documentation to ACOTE throughout the Bridge Program development

5. Teaches up to one course each semester in area(s) of expertise and interest in the OTA or MOT program;

6. Follows course objectives and creates teaching/learning experiences for students which reflect the program's philosophy of education;

7. Continues development of proficiency in teaching through investigation, formal education, continuing education, and self-investigation;

8. Participates in the organizational, admissions, and strategic planning activities of the department;

9. Participates in scholarly activities such as program evaluation, literature review, grant development, presentation, or publication;

10. Participates in national, state, and/or local professional and community organizations;

11. Promotes a positive image of occupational therapy and educates others about the profession both internally and externally;

12. Demonstrates collaboration and collegiality with all departmental faculty and staff and university officials.

Physical Demands Required Qualifications

1. Nationally certified and state licensed occupational therapist

2. Master's degree required

3. Minimum of five years clinical experience as an occupational therapist and evidence of advanced clinical competencies/expertise in one or more areas of practice

4. Experience with successfully developing academic programs, or a highly motivated, independent individual who wishes to gain experience with program development

5. Familiarity with ACOTE, occupational therapy educational standards, and the accreditation process for new programs

6. Teaching experience (in an academic setting or as a continuing education provider) preferred

7. Capacity to create a positive environment and ability to work collaboratively with administrators, other faculty, staff, and students to achieve the goals and objectives of the department, college, and university

Preferred Qualifications

Completed doctoral degree (i.e. Ph.D., OTD, Ed.D., DHSc.) preferred
