    General Description / Primary Purpose

    The Department of Art, Art History & Design at the University of North Florida invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track instructor position in foundations to begin in August of 2022.

    The University of North Florida's Department of Art, Art History & Design is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). The Department is comprised of six major areas of undergraduate study: Art History, Ceramics, Graphic Design and Digital Media, Painting/Drawing/Printmaking, Photography, and Sculpture. The Department expands learning opportunities for students and provides professional enrichment for faculty and staff through a partnership with the Museum of Contemporary Art in downtown Jacksonville, a cultural institute of UNF. In addition, the Department maintains an extensive permanent teaching collection of approximately 500 works from world-renowned artists.

    Essential Duties

    Job Function

    The AAHD Department seeks a foundations instructor to teach a combination of primarily 2D foundation level courses, including but not limited to: Drawing I, Drawing II, Two-Dimensional Design, Three-Dimensional Design, and Color Theory, with the possibility of additional classes in the applicant's field of study. This position is a 9-month non-tenure-track appointment and will included 4/4 undergraduate teaching load and service to the department and university. Opportunities for promotions are available. Appointment is 95% teaching and 5% service.

    Marginal Functions

    As a foundations instructor, the successful candidate will also help create curriculum consistency across foundations courses and be a liaison to adjunct faculty in shared responsibility with other Fine Arts faculty and the Chair. In addition, the successful candidate will help to create flow from foundations courses into the Fine Arts majors.

    Required Qualifications Faculty Position Required Qualifications

    Qualified candidates will have an M.F.A. degree and at least three years of teaching experience beyond the graduate T.A. level.

    The successful candidate will hold a comprehensive understanding of the issues and methods of historical and contemporary art, as evidenced by their personal work and that of their students.

    Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in traditional approaches to painting techniques, have experience teaching painting foundations, limited understanding of the figure, aspects of glazing, knowledge of paint mediums, and have a basic working knowledge of alternative types of paint such as gauche, encaustic, and tempera.
