Title Instructor/Lecturer in Muslim MinistrySchool Harvard Divinity School Department/Area Office for Academic Affairs Position Description
Harvard Divinity School seeks to appoint an adjunct instructor/lecturer to teach an introductory course on the theological, legal, and spiritual dimensions of Islam through the prophetic tradition as part of the Master of Divinity curriculum. This course must engage in a critical reading and analysis of a well-known prophetic tradition referred to as Hadith Jibril, along with other practices of the Prophet Muhammad. The course must be open and accessible to the Divinity School's diverse and multi-religious student body. The appointment title will depend on the finalist's qualifications.
Please note that all Harvard employees must reside in the New England area as of August 1, 2022. All instruction in the fall semester 2022 is expected to take place in-person, however, due to the ongoing pandemic, it is expected that all instructors are versed and able to teach remotely as well, should that become necessary.
Basic Qualifications
Applicants should demonstrate the following qualifications:
(1) Sound knowledge of the Hadith tradition proven by a strong record of publications
(2) Demonstrated ability to lead/facilitate multi-religious and interreligious communal conversations. (3) Prior experience teaching at the graduate level preferred
