The Bower School of Music and the Arts (BSM&A) at Florida Gulf Coast
University seeks an exceptional faculty colleague in Digital Media Design for
a full-time, nine-month, continuing multi-year contract appointment at the
rank of Instructor 1 beginning August 8, 2022. The BSM&A invites applicants
who can contribute unique perspectives to the Digital Media Design Program and
provide excellent teaching that fosters and promotes Digital Media Design
skills and experiences relevant to the current and future needs of the
As Instructor of Digital Media Design you will teach four courses per semester
at the undergraduate level; be involved in course and/or curriculum
development; conduct research/scholarship/professional development;
participate on College and University committees and/or initiatives. There are
opportunities to teach during the summer sessions for additional compensation.

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
Teaches 12 credit hours per semester of undergraduate courses in Digital
Media Design and related subjects as assigned.
Prepares syllabi and instruction materials, coordinates lectures, tests,
and evaluates students.
Engages in reflective self-assessment of teaching styles and methods to
ensure consistently effective instructional performance.
Keeps abreast of new information and developments in field of instruction.
Actively serves on university committees.
Actively participates in institutional meetings.
Assists with the development of curriculum
Continued professional development activity is expected at a level
commensurate with rank and the mission of the University. Community,
institutional and professional service in furtherance of FGCU's mission is
expected of all faculty.

Additional Job Description
Master's degree (MA/MS) in the Design disciplines from a regionally
accredited institution or equivalent accreditation with a minimum of 18
graduate credit hours in the discipline.
Minimum of two years full-time teaching experience at undergraduate and/or
Demonstrated evidence of ability to teach formal design principles, design
processes and creative problem solving.
Professional recognition, exhibitions, publications and awards in the
field of design.
Must meet the University and College criteria for the appointment to the
level of Instructor I.
MFA or PhD in the Design disciplines from a regionally accredited
institution or equivalent accreditation.
Three years of years teaching experience at undergraduate and/or graduate
Evidence of ability to work with professional design studios or non-profit
organizations and build relationships for internships, funding and student
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
We seek candidates with a record of creative practice, pedagogy, exhibited
and/or published work (academic or client-based) and relevant teaching
experience in Digital Media Design in one or more subjects such as
interactive design, web design, motion graphics, video
production/editing/vfx, UI/UX design, animation, design theory, physical
computing or graphic design. Candidates should demonstrate a strong
interest in and capacity for delivering entry- to upper-level
undergraduate design courses.
Experience with and commitment to the use of instructional technology, a
willingness to cultivate interdisciplinary perspectives; and a
demonstrated commitment to professional development.
Experience or commitment to the use of technology in distance learning &
university teaching. Interest in collaborating both within and outside the
University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in
