Position Function:

We are looking for an English instructor with primary expertise in teaching composition. The instructor will hold the rank of Instructor I and have an opportunity to teach Basic Composition (EN 0103), Composition I (EN 1103), Expanded Composition I (EN 1104), Composition II (EN 1113), and Accelerated Composition (EN 1173). In addition, qualified instructors may also be given the opportunity to teach Honors Composition (EN 1113H), 2000-level general education classes in literature, writing, film, and/or linguistics, and selected 3000-level courses according to expertise e.g. EN 3333 (Internship), EN 3303 (Creative Writing), or EN 3313 (Writing for the Workplace). The instructor will carry a 4-4 teaching load and is expected to support the Department of English in a service capacity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design courses to meet learning objectives and outcomes, and promote active participation in students' own learning. • Create a classroom environment that promotes students' curiosity and helps them to work through problems, tasks, and assignments using discipline- specific thinking strategies. • Foster classroom spaces in which people and their ideas are respected and students are encouraged and expected to learn. • Employ a variety of assessments to ensure that instruction leads to student learning and the attainment of learning objectives and outcomes for the course. • Maintain departmental office hours in accordance with departmental and college policies and procedures. • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in regard to student interactions and information. • Attend all required department meetings. • Engage in service, such as serving on a departmental committee, participating in a composition project, and/or mentoring teaching assistants. • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices and/or performance. • Submit an annual teaching and service report and meet with Department Head.

Minimum Qualifications:

MA in English or closely related field and college teaching experience.
