Position Function:

The position is for a full-time, non-tenure track instructor (9-month appointment). The successful candidate will teach three or four courses per semester not to exceed eight total courses per nine-month period. These courses include World Geography, Physical Geography or other introductory courses in geosciences. In addition, the preferred candidate will coordinate the Physical Geography laboratory sections. The duties include making sure the graduate teaching assistants are prepared to facilitate the labs and preparing laboratory instructions and materials. Summer teaching opportunities for additional pay may be available, yet summer employment is not always guaranteed.

Department Profile:

The Department of Geosciences currently has 20 tenured and tenure-track faculty, seven clinical professors, and four full-time instructors. Within the department, there are four areas of disciplinary emphasis: Geology, Geography, Geospatial Science, and Atmospheric Science, which offer numerous opportunities for transdisciplinary collaboration focused on the global climate system. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The typical course load for an instructor is four courses per semester. Summer teaching may be available for additional salary.

Minimum Qualifications:

An M.S. degree in Geosciences or related field. Demonstration, evidence, and commitment to excellence in teaching. Background knowledge of human and physical geography.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least two years teaching experience. Experience teaching introductory geography courses.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Commitment to high quality teaching and strong communication skills including writing and public speaking. Ability to work effectively with students in a classroom environment. Ability to use modern computer hardware and software in delivering instruction.
