Position Category Faculty - Adjunct (Variable Hour) Summary

Teaches a variety of ESL courses which may include listening and speaking, reading, writing, and grammar; prepares instructional materials including syllabus; evaluates instruction and learning by means of oral, written, practical and performance tests; establishes and maintains positive classroom environments and rapport with students; maintains accurate records involving student accountability, attendance, and performance; is available for student consultation; attends instructor meetings; and performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree with a TESL Certificate; or a combination of education and experience related to the summary of duties totaling six years.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of subject matter and content of English as a Second Language Knowledge of current trends in education, second-language acquisition theory, technology. Skill in instructional strategies and techniques of student management, and motivation. Skill in curriculum and course development and evaluation. Interpersonal problem solving, decision-making. Engage in innovative, learning-centered pedagogy. Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in TESL, applied linguistics, or other closely related degrees from a regionally accredited institution.

Physical Requirements

Standing, sitting, moving about a classroom continuously. Continual talking and listening and fine hand manipulation with use of computer programs.
