The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Department of Cell Biology, John Abrams Laboratory, is seeking an Instructor, Research Track. The position requires an M.D./Ph.D. or Ph.D. in basic science. A minimum of 4 years working as a postdoctoral researcher is required. The position will have duties and responsibilities to investigate the restriction of mobile elements by tumor suppressor genes and explore how failures in this process lead to pathologies. Will apply genetic systems and cultured cells, integrating new technologies together with Next-Gen sequence methods focused on – but not limited to: Developing and applying chromatin binding assays (e.g. ChIP, Cut and Run) for relevant transcription factors. Developing and applying analytic methods that interrogate pathogenic datasets for erupting retrotransposons. Will apply molecular and computational tools to understand mechanisms of transposon restriction. Will develop new bioinformatic pipelines, including single cell RNA sequencing analytical approaches, for analysis of repetitive DNA. Will oversee training of lab members in these approaches. Will develop and conduct Introductory Next Generation Sequencing workshops.

(Prism 8). Ability to communicate clearly in English, interact and collaborate with other scientists and prepare/present frequent talks on experiments conducted. Ability to write excellent first drafts of manuscripts and annual reports and to critically evaluate the literature.
