Job Summary
The University of Massachusetts Donahue Institute's (UMDI) Head Start
Program Management and Fiscal Operations (PMFO) Instructional Technologist
provides technical management, training and advanced support for the resource
development team and PMFO's content specialists. This includes support for
webinars, self-paced learning modules, audio/video components, and other
training resources.
Essential Functions
Works collaboratively and effectively with PMFO staff to integrate student
learning outcomes into the design, development, implementation, and
management of webinars, online courses, and instructional resources.
Provides technical support for virtual presentations, online tools,
webinars using different platforms, delivered across time zones and to
varied participant cultures.
Enhances teaching and learning through the identification, evaluation,
adoption, and integration of effective educational technology innovations.
Coordinates the technical aspects of on-site, in-person PMFO events
including liaising with contracted audio/visual staff, and distribution of
follow-up materials (recordings, transcripts, and presentation
materials).
Repurposes webinar assets including editing video files and creating
captioning files. Translates in-person and analog training and resources
to virtual and hybrid formats.
Provides strategic guidance on engaging adult learners through live,
synchronous, and asynchronous training.
Manages e-learning web apps, technical hardware, and e-learning best
practices and works with the Project Manager to address any coordination
concerns.
Other Functions
Actively participates in business unit and UMDI-wide initiatives as
appropriate.
Conducts other operational, logistical, and special project-related tasks
as needed.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education,
Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
Bachelor's Degree.
Four (4) years of equivalent professional instructional technologist
experience may be accepted in lieu of Bachelor's Degree.
Experience with proprietary learning technology solutions and learning
management systems.
Experience with post-production tasks including video and audio editing,
effects, branding and file compression.
Proficiency in the following areas:
Remote training/web conferencing platforms such as Zoom, GoToWebcast, etc.
Preparing and producing webinars in diverse webinar software platforms and other online capacity development events.
Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point), Adobe Acrobat, and social media web platforms.
Captioning apps and other assistive technology.
Various e-learning authoring software/tools. Interactive course software such as Rise 360 and Storyline 360 and animation software such as Vyond preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build
relationships with stakeholders, including staff, federal office, and
external partners, while demonstrating the highest level of
customer/client service.
Demonstrated skills of adaptability, versatility, and excellent attention
to detail in administration and facilitation.
Strong organizational skills prioritizing multiple tasks, with a focus on
objectives and meeting deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education,
Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
Master's Degree.
Degree or coursework in education, instructional design, communications,
computer information systems, computer science, or other related fields.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
Working multiple hours in stationary position using office equipment and
computers.
Must maintain a home office, with a physically safe workspace that is an
appropriate location for the telework, with high-speed internet access,
sufficiently free of distractions. During remote work time, must be
available for ongoing contact with members of the team.
UMDI will supply laptop computer, and cell phone. Other equipment and
resources may be provided. All must be returned to UMDI when leaving UMDI
service or upon the conclusion of the contract.
Regular travel may be required, including occasional travel to
Massachusetts and to Washington, D.C. The employee will be exposed to
outside environmental conditions during travel times.
Some moving and transporting of supplies and materials weighing up to 20
pounds.
The physical/mental demands and work environment factors described above

successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Additional Details
This is a full-time, benefited position.
This position is funded by grants and/or contracts and is contingent upon
funding.
Applicants must be work authorized for employment in the U.S. on a fill-
time basis.

Work Schedule
Standard full-time work schedule consisting of five, eight-hour days and
40 hours each week. Work performed in addition to the regular work week
may be necessary and may require a change in availability at specific
times to accommodate variations in work and client demands.
This position has the opportunity for a remote work schedule, which is
defined by the University as an arrangement where the employee's work
location is to work from a site other than the UMass Amherst campus. As
this position falls within the Professional Staff Union, it is subject to
the terms and conditions of the Professional Staff Union collective
bargaining agreement.
