Instructional Specialist, UCF Abroad

The UCF Abroad Office, in the Division of Student Learning and Academic
Success, promotes international education, instructs applied learning courses
for students, and supports quality international curriculum integration among
faculty. UCF Abroad is seeking an instructional specialist to join the team.
The instructional specialist is a 12-month faculty position responsible for
the development of curriculum, courses, and workshops for international
education. The instructional specialist reports to the director of UCF Abroad.
The selected candidate will be expected to:
• Develop curriculum and deliver training and workshops for faculty and
departments in the development of study abroad programs, and advising students
interested in studying abroad.
• Serve as project lead to implement and grow the global learning High Impact
Practices (HIP) course designation.
• Coordinate international internships and research, working with Experiential
Learning and the Office of Undergraduate Research.
• Liaise with other HIP units on collaborative programming with study abroad.
• Work with college and department contacts to streamline and standardize
study abroad course approval process and serve as the student liaison for
course approval troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with faculty, academic colleges, and departments in the
development of new study abroad programs.
• Work with the UCF Abroad director to support deans and faculty to capitalize
on opportunities that increase their involvement in UCF abroad programs to
benefit students and strengthen the working relationships with departments,
colleges, and the university.
• Provide professional guidance to faculty advisors and assist them in problem
resolution as needed.
• Assist faculty leaders with registration, grading scale, attainment of
learning objectives, and assessment of overall academic quality in appropriate
study abroad courses.
• Participate in grant writing teams or special projects where international
education is a component of the proposal or activity.
• Assist UCF Abroad team with fundraising for student scholarships.
• Measure effectiveness and quality of study abroad programs and operations.
• Work with UCF Abroad director to lead unit assessment of institutional
effectiveness (IE) efforts and research projects.
• Assist with the UCF Abroad crisis management liaison.
• Collaborate with UCF Abroad team to market and promote study abroad programs
to all constituents.
• Maintain current knowledge of trends and literature in the field of

A master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate discipline
is required. The position requires a minimum of five years of appropriate
experience in curriculum development and teaching. The successful candidate
must have excellent communication skills for teaching and training, advising
students, keeping records, writing letters, delivering presentations, and
answering questions. The position requires computer skills including Word,
Excel, PowerPoint, and database experience.
A terminal degree from an accredited institution in international education or
a closely related field, experience with study abroad and/or international
education programming. Experience with curriculum alignment, assessment, and
development. Evidence of working as a productive and valuable team member, to
take initiative, meet deadlines, and be resourceful, partnership minded, and
flexible with strong follow up and communication skills. Previous work in a
university environment with faculty, staff, and other constituents.
