POSITION TITLE: Instructional Media Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Teaching and Learning Services (TLS)
POSITION STATUS: Full-time (12 months)
POSITION REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Teaching and Learning Services
JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Coordinator of Teaching and
Learning Services, the Instructional Media Specialist assists USF faculty in
the design and delivery of instructional media for face-to-face, online, and
hybrid courses and the integration of best practices in instruction. The
Instructional Media Specialist consults with USF faculty members to achieve
their educational goals using technology. The Instructional Media Specialist
plans and delivers training to faculty members on media and graphic creation
and their integration in Canvas. The Instructional Media Specialist
collaborates with the TLS instructional designers and technologists to develop
and build robust, engaging, and interactive courses.
Major Responsibilities/Activities
Shows commitment to the University's mission and support of its Catholic
and Franciscan traditions.
Supports faculty in drafting, editing, and developing content, including
scripts, storyboards, and slides for video lectures.
Assists in content development and revision initiatives.
Assess media and digital content to ensure digital content is accessible.
Designs and facilitates faculty workshops on topics related to digital
content development to enhance the quality of courses.
Applies learning theory and evidence-based teaching practices to media
development.
Collaborates with faculty to apply best practices in content creation and
ensure that course materials meet copyright policies and accessibility
standards.
Partners with faculty members to create synchronous and asynchronous
learning activities and assessments.
Reviews media production and final editing to ensure alignment with
educational objectives.
Develops and maintains training and support documentation.
Consults and assists USF faculty with learning design needs, including
creating and integrating multimedia into their courses.
Integrates technologies and apps into digital learning experiences and
solves technical or design challenges for education.
Provides support for USF Learning Management System (LMS).
Researches and suggests emerging technologies to support face-to-face,
online and hybrid instruction.
Assists in building courses in the USF Learning Management System
(Canvas).
Explores the use of newer technologies in teaching and learning.
Serves as the third escalation contact for the LMS support issues.
Other Duties as Assigned
Coordinates Teaching and Learning Podcast Initiative.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Required – BA/BS Degree in Graphic Design, Information Technology,
Instructional Design, or Education Technology-related field or equivalent
required.
Preferred – MA/MS Degree in Graphic Design, Information Technology,
Instructional Design, or Education Technology-related field or equivalent
required.
Experience
One year of experience in the course management system (preferably
Canvas).
One year of experience in developing, training, and supporting college
faculty.
Two years of experience in graphic design and video production.
Three years of experience designing and developing technology-based
instructional experiences, including online and hybrid.
Experience with interactive program design utilizing Adobe Creative Suite,
including InDesign, Photoshop, Premier Pro, After Effects, etc.
Experience with content-based and technology-based Open Educational
Resources (OERs).
Working knowledge of emerging technologies and their impact on
instructional design.
Proven experience working with faculty on course design and development
for distance learning programs/courses in a higher education environment.

community, including verbal and interpersonal communication.

Excellent organizational skills, ability to respond flexibly to changing
needs and priorities, and consistently manage and meet deadlines.
In addition, knowledge of Creative Cloud, Camtasia, and programming
(HTML, Python, Java Script) is valued.
Familiarity with web conferencing tools and video software applications,
such as Teams, Panopto, Camtasia, etc.
Ability to utilize digital photography and video equipment and experience
working with various multimedia files and formats.
Ability to design and write promotional and instructional materials.
