Position Details
Instructional Media Services provides comprehensive support services to the faculty, staff, and students utilizing classroom technology, and supports events and conferences. This includes physical A/V support in classrooms, computer labs, and meeting rooms across campus, and virtual support of hybrid and remote instruction as needed.
Reporting to the Director of Academic Technology as part of Instructional Media Services (IMS), and working in close collaboration with other IT units, the Instructional Media Specialist supports computing and AV technology across the Wesleyan campus.
Classroom technology at Wesleyan includes Macs and PCs, AMX audio visual control systems, classroom capture (Echo360), and video conferencing (Zoom). Standard classroom technology also includes cameras and table and ceiling microphones, running on an AVOIP backbone
This position will help implement the reimagined approach to classroom technology as Wesleyan has two major building projects underway. In these buildings all classroom and conference spaces will be designed to be flexible and multi-purpose, reflecting the need for adaptability and accommodating a range of physical and virtual presences.
The Specialist will provide audio, video, computer, and other control hardware and software support; ensuring that university and department equipment remains functional for the Wesleyan community both virtually and in person. While all Specialists are required to have a strong grasp of all classroom technology, this position is focused on supporting classroom media hardware.
Responsibilities include:
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and at least one-year experience in complex A/V systems support or a related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Demonstrated proficiency with video production, including camera operation as well as all types of microphones and their proper utilization, mixers, acoustics, and with video conference software.
Comfort with Mac and Windows operating systems, room management systems, and IT networking.
Excellent people skills and first-rate customer service practices and accountability.
Ability to communicate (in writing and conversation) technical issues to non-specialists.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Ability to work a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours as required.
Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and five years' experience in complex A/V support.
Experience supervising student staff.
