Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a part-time Instructional Designer for the Center for Government Services (CGS). Consistent with CGS' mission, this position will be responsible for the transition, design and development of the Center's currently existing catalogue of training courses into templates of engaging, learner-centered modules, including course materials, and creation of measurable learning objectives. The core platform and course sites will be in Canvas which will include traditional classroom-based instruction, synchronous and asynchronous hybrid course delivery. This position will utilize the ADDIE model of course development (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation). This position will transfer existing course content to Canvas and will provide assistance to instructors seeking the use of instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning. This position requires collaboration with instructors and the CGS team staff to develop project plans that ensure work is consistent with the mission and goals of CGS and meets deliverables as projected. Must exhibit extensive knowledge of relevant technologies and the principles and theories of adult learning. This position must include/create instructional activities, and other learning tools and resources ensuring that program/course design accommodates diverse learners and achieve desired learning outcomes.

Position Status Part Time Hours Per Week up to 19.5 Daily Work Shift Work Arrangement

This position requires a fully on-site work arrangement.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in instructional design, curriculum/instructional development, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in instructional design for adults.
  • Certifications/Licenses Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in or with continuing education/professional programs.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Candidate must have a solid understanding of adult learning concepts and in-depth knowledge and experience in the Instructional Design process.
  • Understand and have in-depth experience with the ADDIE model.
  • Strong experience in PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Adobe, and Canvas.
  • Knowledgeable about accessibility standards; management systems.
  • Proven ability to develop training courses and supporting documentation.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and the ability to work, collaborate with and support staff and subject matter experts having diverse backgrounds and perspectives regarding the use of technology in a variety of learning capacities.
  • Requires open, timely, and consistent communication with the supervisor; and the ability to escalate issues in a timely fashion.
  • Keeps current on best practices in instructional design.
