SUMMARY:

MCAD is seeking an Instructional Consultant. The Instructional Consultant provides assistance to the department in the areas of technical and Learning Management System (LMS) support, Course Design support and faculty training, and online program management. The Instructional Consultant is knowledgeable in technically supporting online learning programs, experienced in supporting online, blended, and emerging modalities, experienced with course design and development support, collaborating with instructional designer and instructional technologist to curate and design teaching and learning materials to support online teaching at MCAD. The Instructional Consultant must be sensitive to college needs, employee and student goodwill, and the overall brand equity of MCAD as an employer and educational institution.

DETAILS: This is a part time non-exempt and benefits eligible position, expected to work 21-24 hours a week. This position reports to the Director of Online Teaching and Learning and is paid $21 - $24 hourly.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Course Design Support and Faculty Training:
  • Collaborating with faculty in a consultative process in the design and development of their online synchronous course
  • Developing and utilizing effective proactive and just-in-time quick support resources and media, like toolkits, knowledge base articles and videos job-aids
  • Writing scripts for video and audio content
  • Collaborating with OTL staff to troubleshoot problems reported by users
  • Responding to student and instructor technical questions related to MCAD's Learning Management System or online learning technologies.
  • Supporting faculty and staff with creating instructional media for their courses or programs (e.g. videos).
  • Creating support resources to support online teaching and learning, including Knowledge Base (KB) articles, Toolkits, Instructional Videos, and on-demand workshops.
  • Assisting with new online faculty onboarding.
  • Creating engaging learning activities and compelling course content
  • Designing and implementing learning tools for assessments such as discussions, group work, and peer reviews
  • Dialog with OTL team in identifying faculty's training needs with improving their Online teaching
  • Keeping up-to-date on learning technologies, educational frameworks, and best practices for teaching and learning
  • Foster a culture of inclusion, innovation, and excellence among online faculty, students, and staff.
  • Administering Online Learning contracts and ancillary forms and maintains a well-organized archive of contracts for the department.
  • Managing and collaborating with the OTL team the documentation of OTL processes for (e.g., maintaining the department wiki, tracking education technologies licenses).
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Represents MCAD's vision, purpose, and values in day to day work and interactions with MCAD students, staff, faculty, and campus guests, as well as the greater community.
  • Requirements

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor's degree in Education, Instructional Design, Instructional or Academic Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 2 years of administrative experience.
  • At least 2 years experience supporting users with technology, preferably in an academic setting.
  • Learning Management System (LMS) support experience (Canvas) preferred.
  • Experience teaching or assisting online course(s) preferred.
  • Experience creating a variety of high-quality, engaging educational media preferred.
  • Experience with art and design is preferred.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills required.
  • Careful attention to detail.
  • A friendly, welcoming demeanor.
  • Able to multitask effectively.
  • Expertise using office software (Google Apps preferred): docs, forms, and spreadsheets.
  • Strong skills in troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Proficient with Google Meet preferred.
  • Experience with screencasting software, such as ScreenFlow preferred.
  • Proficient with Adobe software preferred.
  • ENVIRONMENT: This position operates in a professional office environment. This position requires the ability and willingness to closely partner with team members and colleagues in other departments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
