The main objective is the biological validation of two formulations based on
nanosystems: one is designed and fabricated for the diagnosis of the
atherosclerotic plaque with the risk to present clinical evidences; the other,
for therapeutic purposes, is intended for the treatment/limitation of the
evolution of the plaque.For the first part the activity will be based on
photoacoustic nanoparticles, whereas the second part, polymeric nanoparticles
loaded with monoclonal antibodies and externally
engineered with antibodies specific for markers of the early-state plaque will
be used. These two nanosystems will be validated with in vivo imaging for the
diagnostic purposes in ApoE-/- mice. Furthermore, in vitro studies on
different cell lines (endothelial, smooth muscle cells, and macrophages)
