  • The research focuses on the first phase of the restoration process: the cleaning of the work of art. The ideal cleaning should be selective, effective and controlled. Researchers are aware that the materials used today in cleaning are often effective in cleaning, but responsible for leaching the organic components present in the product, causing the removal of the original materials. This research aims to identify innovative materials and methods, using systems capable of effective cleaning and free of harmful side effects for the work of art. The proposed methods include a first phase in the laboratory carried out on test materials to evaluate the effectiveness of the cleaning, the possible removal of the original materials, the presence of residues due to the chosen materials. This will be followed by the application of the method developed on the work of art, which provides for constant monitoring and analytical evaluation of each operation carried out.
