Project/Unit Description

This position is for an Information Systems Engineer in the Electronics Systems Laboratory Information Technology (IT) department. This department provides critical IT infrastructure for both operations and sponsored research. The ELSYS IT department designs, builds, and maintains information systems used to conduct sponsored research.

Job Purpose

The Information Systems Engineer leads the technical design and support of our end-user computing environment. This engineer is responsible for the day-to- day operational activities of the end-user computing environment, including but not limited to Windows, Mac, and Linux workstation provisioning, deployment, and maintenance. The Information Systems Engineer leverages configuration management tools to effectively manage a fleet of heterogeneous systems to conduct compliance auditing, and vulnerability and patch remediation. The Information Systems Engineer also works closely with leadership, stakeholders, and Project/Process Management authorities to effectively translate business strategy and objectives into technological capabilities. This position interacts, advises and counsels on a regular basis with staff, third party vendors, and service providers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct end-user IT device(s) life-cycle management (provisioning, deploying, patching, maintaining, backups, security, networking).
  • Conduct IT and security assurance systems research and integrate technologies into complex electronic systems.
  • Design and maintain IT systems to support various sponsored research projects.
  • Implement and maintain client and server software used to support project management and software development.
  • Conduct cross domain data exchange and systems integration.
  • Serve as implementer of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for configuration management solutions.
  • Conduct virtual machine management.
  • Deploy security control configuration to systems using configuration management tools.
  • Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience with developing scripts using languages such as Bash, PowerShell, VBScript, and/or Python
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, IP configuration, peer-to-peer networking, and IP addressing and subnetting
  • Experience with configuring and troubleshooting computer networks
  • Experience with Microsoft Active Directory (AD), Microsoft Group Policy Objects (GPOs), Domain Name System (DNS), and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Experience with enterprise virtualization technologies (i.e. Hyper-V, VMware, Harvester)
  • Experience managing enterprise storage devices
  • Familiarity with Cybersecurity principles and protection methods
  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) practices
  • Experience with applying Windows and Linux (RHEL) security patches
  • Experience configuring server equipment for production use (installing hardware components, iLO, troubleshooting, etc.)
