Are you a skilled Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) project engineer, willing to take an active role in design, construction, testing, commissioning and operation of HVAC, air distribution, district heating, water colling equipment and systems for CERN's buildings and infrastructure? You will join the Infrastructure Section (IN), within the Site Asset Management (SAM) Group in the Site and Civil Engineering (SCE) Department, which is in charge of the operation, maintenance, design, tendering and work phases of HVAC, Electrical and Sanitary installations for buildings in the CERN sites.

Functions

As an HVAC project engineer, you will be in charge of the design and construction of HVAC plants for new technical projects or buildings, and the refurbishment or upgrade of existing systems in CERN's campus.

You will:

  • Perform feasibility studies, detailed designs or technical reviews of ventilation and air conditioning systems including sizing and cost estimates for the proposed solutions.
  • Draw up technical specifications and all relevant documents that will be used to adjudicate the workload to external contractors.
  • Manage the contract tendering and adjudication processes.
  • Follow up and regularly report on project's progress, quality, risks, schedule and costs, throughout the work phase until the commissioning and formal reception of the project.
  • Ensure technical coordination of contractors in charge of installation construction.
  • Support the operation responsibilities of the SAM-IN Section on planning, documentary and reporting compliance, budget control, troubleshooting and process improvement of existing plants as well as safety.
  • Supervise and coach early career professionals.
  • Qualifications

    Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of mechanical engineering, preferably with a specialization in industrial ventilation and hydraulics installations or a related field.

    Experience:

    The experience required for this post is:

  • Extensive experience in various HVAC/air distribution/heating systems/sanitary systems/chilled and heated water fields (knowledge of construction materials and techniques).
  • Good experience in drawing up construction files, estimating costs, value engineering.
  • Regular practice providing and reviewing price estimates for new HVAC construction and renovation projects.
  • Excellent technical knowledge and practice of technical standards for construction work and technical design.
  • Regular practice of Swiss and/or French regulations.
  • Proven experience in the coordination of HVAC-EL services (Heating, Ventilation, Air Cooling and Electricity) in design building.
  • Implementation and monitoring of KPIs for HVAC activities
  • Technical competencies:

  • Design and construction of HVAC plants and networks: including test of HVAC ancillary hydraulic systems.
  • Design, construction, operation and maintenance of compressed air systems
  • Water cooling process design and analysis: including design of water- cooling plants Raw, chilled, heated water.
  • Knowledge of EU regulations: in particular HVAC process and regulation: bMS (Building management Systems) as well as ISO 50001 standards and RE2020 regulation.

  • Thermal building load calculation according to Swiss or French thermal regulation.

  • Design, construction, and test of district heating systems.
  • Commissioning & maintenance of mechanical equipment & systems for HVAC plants.

  • Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organization.
