Human Resources Generalist


The Human Resources Generalist performs human resource-related duties at the professional level and will be responsible for working in the following areas but not limited to; benefits administration, Family Medical Leave administration, Workman's Compensation, and supports the onboarding and off- boarding process for all benefits-eligible faculty and staff.


  • Administers Family and Medical Leave Act benefits, including the use of disability and sick leave pool benefits as they relate. Informs employees of FMLA rights and responsibilities; determines if eligible and qualified for FMLA and approves; tracks use of sick and vacation leave accruals and use of FML hours; completes ePARs to place employees on leave and to return to work; maintains accurate records and ensures the confidentiality of medical information. Coordinates unpaid leave and extended leave requests per policy. Processes Workman's Compensation claims.
  • Enters employee benefits into ERS and the university system human resources/payroll database (PS-HRMS). Enters all adjustments to deduct on pay-lines and checks to make sure screens in PeopleSoft are activated and deactivated upon onboarding and off-boarding.
  • Supports the new employee onboarding sessions and continually monitors new employees' hiring process to ensure timely onboarding completion by creating new hire folders, and ensuring newly hired employees complete the I-9 form. Processes all employee separations from the University, ensuring that exiting employees have completed the necessary documentation.
  • Assists employees with workers' compensation claims and files required reports with appropriate university offices and the State Office of Risk Management.
  • Processes tuition reimbursement, college release, and fitness release time programs including approving applications, maintaining electronic tracking, and processing additional pay ePARs as needed. Processes all employee legal name changes and tracks and administers Wellness Leave, and performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications


    1. Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resource Management, Management, or a related field.

    2. Three years of human resources experience.

    3. Ability to establish and maintain effective and efficient working relationships with employees at all levels of the University.

    4. Exemplifies the desired culture of the Human Resources Office including the ability to work effectively as a team member with employees, management, and the Human Resources staff.

    5. Ability to complete assignments within specified deadlines accurately and efficiently.

    6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a pleasant and personable demeanor.

    7. Must have strong initiative and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

    8. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to meet competing deadlines under pressure while maintaining accuracy with strong attention to detail.

    9. Strong follow-through on commitments, using sound judgment to recognize and handle sensitive/confidential information.


    Master's degree.

    Experience in benefits administration, FMLA, Workman's Compensation, etc.

    SHRM-CP, PHR, or other Human Resources related certification upon hire.
